  1. I guess we're going to find out whether ideas that I have in the middle of the night, along with domain purchases, are a good idea 😅

  6. Ah, the good ol' days of 'view source' helping teach people how to make the web.

This was a *literacy* tool. You could see the layer underneath the interface. AI has no equivalent.

  7. I *told* you that I had another post in me about "tasteslop"!

In this post, I show how tasteslop is elegant consumption applied to cultural capital.

  8. Emily Segal has coined "tasteslop" for AI-generated work that looks tasteful but is extracted from the social relations that give taste meaning.

I think the same logic runs through education. Literacy-slop is the credential without the community of practice, the qualification without the learning. It satisfies the classifier and nothing else.

  9. In my latest blog post I bang on about why “frictionless” experiences aren't always a good idea, and how a bit of productive friction can help us think, learn, and act with more agency.

Mozilla Webmaker (RIP), elegant consumption, AI “friction architects”, and the sweet spot between rage‑quit friction and mindless scrolling.

  11. The report from Tactical Tech focuses on Digital Media Literacy (DML), exploring its complexities and the challenges associated with how it’s assessed. It delves into the role of teachers and educators, hopefully once and for all dismissing the notion of “digital natives” and “digital non-natives”. The report emphasises that both teachers and […]
