I'm wondering about the responsibilities of instance owners in the #fediverse. I've been considering hosting a private #kbin instance for my wife and I, but I've been cautious and trying to research. One of my biggest concerns is if someone posts something illegal from an instance you're federated with, what are your legal responsibilities? Do you #defed and lose access to everything else on that instance? I imagine the same considerations exist for #mastodon instances.

So, not trying to be contrary or anything, but like how can a person who talks like this be said to be interested in participating in any kind of community healing process.
I do believe in the necessity of community healing, and I promise this isn't recreational. But if she has this attitude about taking responsibility then can the mods maybe just close the book on her? At what point does that happen? Any?
It's not pragmatic to keep a main here if this community can't accept her clearly stated lack of intention to reform. Laurelai, specifically, feels like a terrible hill to die on.

Not sure how healthy this is for the platform.
Banning a server full of journalists (nearly all of whom I'm sure are responsible, ethical, etc.) because there's a small handful of bad actors (actually, just one guy the admin doesn't like).
Why not just ban the bad actors, instead of making the whole server — who the admin admits has "quite a lot of decent people" suffer?
