Advertising industry, a parable in two parts:
Ad industry spends a couple of decades and develops interactive, scripted tracking advertisement technology involving incredibly fast automated bidding, interest-matching, distribution, in addition to all kinds of metrics that take advantage of the 2-way communication of the internet to reinforce ads, measure their distribution and performance, and other stuff.
The only advertisement I've seen in the last year that actually interested me enough to look up the company on the internet: painted on the side of a disused tractor-trailer parked in a farmer's field near the highway I was driving on yesterday.

CW: hashtag oversaturation, absolutely non-screenreader friendly

#Besides the #fact that it is a #pain in the #ass for #screenreader #users, #most of those #hashtags are just #useless and do #not even #help to #reach a #bigger #audience.
On the #contrary, even for #sighted #folks it's #hard to #read, so they #probably #ignore the #post and just #continue #scrolling. -

Today on "Democrats are absolutely useless"...
"<Democrat> meets with <Trump official>, seeks assurances" is one of the dumbest things you can say or do, and yet they keep doing it.
You can get whatever "assurances" you like from anyone in the administration, but the minute Trump's swiss-cheese mind misfires a braincell or Stephen Miller's racism-boner twitches or Russell Vought sees an opportunity to executive-order women back into the kitchen, it's out the window and they'll do whatever they want to do.
If you want to make sure they don't do something, pass a goddamned law. That is literally your job. Stop pussy-footing around.

If I Wasn’t Sure, I Would’ve Shut the Hell Up
Daily writing promptWhat is one question you hate to be asked? Explain.View all responses There are thousands of annoying questions floating around modern conversation, but one sits at the top like a smug little king of stupidity: “Are you sure?” That question is the verbal equivalent of poking someone after they’ve already handed you the damn answer. If a person wasn’t sure, they wouldn’t have opened their mouth in the first place. Human speech generally implies a certain level of […]https://ericfoltin.com/2026/03/05/if-i-wasnt-sure-i-wouldve-shut-the-hell-up/

APB FYI
I've just removed the LLM network which creates Alt texts, useless for blind people.
I've consulted several blind people IRL who told me the same thing.
Alt text generated by all LLM systems is useless
The system that we have here on the FediVerse which uses a ethical data set, puts the emphasis on useless details for the blind individual.
The blind person can immediately see if a photograph has been described by the photographer.
It is totally different from what an LLM can produce.
The emphasis are straight to the point
- the description has a technical part
- the description has a compositional part
- the description has a color part
- the description has a lighting part
- the description has a short story
All of the above are important for the blind individual, however a large language model, doesn't know anything; it puts elaborate emphasis on things that are totally unnecessary absolutely unusable and makes the description messy to such a degree that all those Alt texts are simply ignored by the blind people.
Background:
As a young child I was extremely traumatized by cousin LLoyd, who broke my right eye, by throwing a stone into my eye.
Note
The only thing the only section that wasn't broken was the section that can never heal
I had to walk a whole year with a broken eye. I had not only lost depth of vision, I also lost a considerable amount of information which made my brains work much harder and made seeing the world much more difficult, putting extreme stress on my left eye. From that perspective, I know from personal experience trauma and horror, what it means for a blind person to tell you that your LLM generated Slop, Alt text description, is totally useless.
I've checked the bot going through many iterations of many LLM back ends and came to the same conclusion as the blind people
ALT text generated by any LLM is useless
Note
Cousin LLoyd was angry that I laughed at him & Paul for fighting with his big brother about a cooked egg, instead of sharing it. They were living in a hostile environment
I got my sight back thanks to a genious of an eye surgeon, who literally rebuilt my eye. I'm eternally grateful to him

"Two more minutes of that and I'd be wearing a MAGA hat" - Jimmy Kimmel on the People's State of the Union.
He's not wrong, the Democrats are begging to lose if that's the best they can do as their alternative. @MeidasTouch fucked up there big time; it felt like a high school protest without any of the energy and inspiration.

Why are the US #Democrats so absolutely #useless?
"Oh, we might skip the State of the Union address to show our displeasure with the administration."
Are you #morons? That would be a gift to Dear Leader and his #lickspittle #Congress. The #SOTU would be Mango Mussolini speaking to a friendly crowd, all happy, applauding, not a contrary expression to be seen. He'll be happy, smiling, at his most congenial as he basks in the warm glow. You do not do this.
What you do is attend. Every #Democratic #house member and #senator. Every staffer and guest that they're entitled to bring. Everyone. You put them all in their assigned places.
And then, when Trump gets up to speak, every single one of them simply turns away from the dictator. Turn their back to him, and *stay* that way for the whole speech. The #optics are great; the cameras show half the crowd with their backs to him, in obvious #protest. The #tyrant has to look at it all through his speech. He's angry. He's spiteful. He puts on a display for the ages, goes off-script, airing every #grievance his Swiss-cheese mind can dredge up. His body language is hostile. #Media coverage shows the event for what it actually is: a #vengeful, #lawless #authoritarian trying to verbally browbeat the legislative branch into submission.
#DNC, I'm available for consulting if you'd like.

Jebus, just got this email from #Uber. The bloody cheek.
Note the only problem with my "payment methods" was that UberEats took my money, their driver didn't bother to come to my street, much less my house, and 3 of their support agents said yes, I deserved a refund, and no, they couldn't give me one unless I used the Uber App on the cellphone that I do not own to request it -- even though I'd paid through their website.
I half want to check what they actually did - but I don't have an "account". I made one transaction, and they screwed it up.
Still waiting to see if my credit card dispute of the charges goes through.

and btw, there is another lie.
now i'm not to fond of #npr as they're too librel for my daily news (I use fox) but we can use them as a source.
they recently did an interview with the CEO of Roblox, and I particularly looked at their safety policies.
first off, #age estimation using #ai is completely #useless AI makes a lot of mistakes, and miners is something you absolutely cannot fuck up.
second, really? trusted connections? sounds like censorship if you ask me.
these have nothing to do with #safety .
they also said absolutely nothing about #csam / #csem materials on the platform.
if you really wanted to do child safety, you'd let them report messages. actively work with law enforcement agencies to do CSEM scanning and scan for sensitive words. hell, you might even work with what you call, ivdualanties, like shlep who do a good job at catching these people. the fuckin guy even said he would work with you If you just gave him a line, he has no problem doing that. and I can tell you from experience and noticing other friends play Roblox it is not filtered.
I do not trust at all Roblox is safe!
ever!
and btw, here's that artical from NPR.
https://www.nprillinois.org/2025-07-23/roblox-ceo-on-platforms-safety-efforts-as-congress-works-to-protect-kids-onlineI will tell you one thing I have took from this, they are only doing this age stuff because federal and state require it. that's the only reason why. not because they care, just because they can get their federal reviews and money.

Random Wikipedia #criticism (rant?)...
One of the things that bugs me about (English) #Wikipedia is how aspects of it are controlled by, for lack of a better word, #pedants, without consideration of the actual #readers - without considering the purpose of an encyclopedia.
One example of this is how, when an article features aspects of another language or dialect - for instance, something from Old English, or Arabic - where the reader will not be familiar with how to pronounce something presented transliterated to a modern Latin/English alphabet, or with a word shown in a non-Latin script entirely.
It used to be common in reference works to give a simple #pronunciation key that was at least close to the correct pronunciation, but was easily understood by a normal literate reader. You know; the stuff that looked like "ED-joo-KAY-shun" or "SHEH-joo-ull" or whatever.
Well, that's not good enough for Wikipedia most of the time. Instead, they give the pronunciation in International #Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), so you get stuff like "æɪ" and "aʊ" and "/ɔː/".
These are absolutely more #accurate guides to how a word should sound. And they are absolutely, completely #useless and #uninformative to 99% of people reading the article.
You know who already knows and is completely comfortable reading #IPA?
#Linguists. Students of language.
You know, the people who *already know* how to #pronounce the words. The people who don't actually need it.
#FFS.

One of the most #useless search functions in any software application ever written and published ever, surely must be, imho, the one in the Object Explorer of #microsoft #ssms #sqlservermanagementstudio . Yes, it displays results if found... and then won't let you do anything with that knowledge.
Looking for a view or stored procedure? Found here! But no link, no click to access, no open, no nothing. You get a path.
And thanks, Microsoft. Do better.

CW: Angry, existential venting and very strong language
It literally was a mistake in the system why I was born and had to be a burden. Now, I'm stuck here until someone kills me or I die. I'm literally sick of all this crap and my existence hurts people but if I take myself out, I hurt people, might ruin myself and not die, or I have thought of my mind of total damnation.
It was a cruel joke, and I want this to be over somedays. I want to be useful and if I'm not, I don't deserve to be alive. I don't know why I'm a pathetic, worthless loser but I hate it and it doesn't do anything to help me or anyone around me. What's the point of this crap? I'm exhausted. What's wrong with me?
They should make lobotomies available again.
