A day where I am reminded that there are some family members who it’s not safe to be #queer or #trans around.
They might smile and be nice and polite but every now and again the mask slips and you realise there’s some amount of pretence going on there. Maybe there’ll be an apology, maybe there won’t; if there is, it’s probably bullshit; if there isn’t, asking for one is a fool’s errand. Because these slips are, in fact, a window on who they really are and what they really think.
These slips hurt, but they’re gifts.
It’s good to be reminded who has your back and who is being ‘tolerant’. It’s good to be reminded who deserves your love and your loyalty and who needs to be managed so they don’t fuck up your life. Who not to call on in a crisis. Who not to trust with your kids and your loved ones. Who requires unimpeachable conduct from you, so you leave no attack vector for them that wouldn’t completely expose their soft, cowardly and oh-so-tender bigotry.
It’s also good to be reminded that you yourself can fuck up your own life by taking their #queerphobia on, whether that’s in conflict or by quietly internalising it.
And it’s very good to remember that you, a queer person who is unapologetic but not unafraid, because who amongst us is still unafraid, owe them nothing, and possess much that is precious and real, to which they have zero access.

I won’t take any politician seriously who condemns the #CSDBerlin attack when they have NEVER condemned #queerphobia, or worse, have spread queerphobic talking points themselves.
Queerphobia, no matter how "mild", can sooner or later be used as a justification for death and #violence because it paints #queer ppl as "lesser". If queerphobia is not stopped, it’s the breeding ground for deadly violence.
If you oppose violence, you must oppose the underlying bigotry thas JUSTIFIES that violence.

While the report doesn't say the #queerphobia of the AfD on its own might be enough to justify a ban, the key points are damning:
* Dogma of #heteronormativity, "2 genders only"
* Denial of #NonBinary ppl and a rejection of existing legal protections
* Delete #marriage equality
* Defamation of #LGBTQ ppl and #drag queens+kings as "#pedo" or "Satan’s spawn"
* Intentional deadnaming+misgendering
* Many AfD ppl ask LGBTQ ppl to STFU while saying "We're not homophobic"
* #Pride (#CSD) ban proposals -
If disabled people don't have rights, all your enemies need to do is define you as disabled. This literally happens all the time, like with women who wanted the right to vote in the US.

I find it quite saddening that there is this notion that minors and adults can't coexist. If someone is friends with a minor, that is viewed as suspicious. The person hasn't done anything wrong, but they are perceived negatively. It's worse for queer people, especially when it comes to being transgender.
For example, bottom/top surgery is viewed as "sexual" and "inappropriate for minors" by some. But none of this is inherently sexual. Of course, I am a sexual being, but that doesn't make my entire existence inherently sexual. I don't want to be seen as a freak or a sex pest simply for interacting with minors in queer spaces. Heck, parts of disability are also sexual.
I think there is a very fine line between exploitation and a simple conversation about what has or hasn't worked for you. By no means am I saying adults should be forced to share their life experiences with minors, but I also don't think we should have to live in fear of what mainstream society thinks of us.
We should also be making this a conversation about how we can help protect trans youth. They need just as much support as adults, if not more!

The Canadian Antihate Network (CAHN) and the CBC have identified over 190 Canadians who were on the now-defunct white supremacist dating site WhiteDate.net. Among them are a number of members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), including Royal Canadian Air Force Major Tristan Armstrong, who apparently left a trail of thousands of posts in far-right forums between 2019-2024. The CAF is now investigating him.
Armstrong's online posts championed Nazi Germany and Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists, really off-the-charts views about Black people, women, and LGBTQ folks.

Another is Ottawa-based naval reservist Brogan Hale ("blueeyedsailor" on WhiteDate.net), who has expressed eliminationist ideas in order to "keep Canada white".
And a third is Brandon Longpré, a self-identified corporal in the Governor General's Foot Guards in Ottawa. Longpré isn't quoted in either of these articles, but having observed WhiteDate closely while it was still up and running, I can tell you that it's pretty inconceivable that anyone could have had an account on there without knowing that it was a forum for people on the white nationalist/neo-nazi spectrum.

The CBC article also identifies the WhiteDate accounts of two already well known Canadian nazis: Shawn Beauvais-MacDonald of the Frontenac Active Club/Second Sons Canada and Exiles of the Golden Age organizer Lane Pommer.
