  1. I've been thinking for a long time about moving from Apple's #Journal app back to #DayOneApp.

Among other things, I've missed having the Journal app on the iPad and Mac, but I remembered it's coming with the upcoming OS 26 updates, so I started to question if it was a good idea.

Then I remembered how bad things seem with the liquid glass situation, and how I'm really not looking forward to upgrading in September.

    ☝️
Et ça, c’est un sacré plus.

  3. Just created a pretty neat #automation with #AlfredApp that does the following:

Typing “journal” followed by some text designating an entry title creates a new #DayOne and opens the #DayOneApp to that new entry.

  4. Can't decide if I want to try Apple's Journal app or stick with #DayOneApp #journaling

  5. I started journaling with #DayOneApp again recently… and it’s going well! Here are a few thoughts I have on #journaling, consistency, and what it all means to me.

  6. A quick update that after trying a few things and them not working out so well, I decided to just manually copy over each Xanga post into Day One. (Over 300 done with many to go!) It's been quite amusing so far! Oh, the things a 20-25 year old college guy posted about in the early 2000’s… 😜

  7. Came across the backup I made of my old Xanga site. Wowwww there’s so much to dig through! Currently checking to see if there’s a way to import the posts into Day One. If not, I may end up needing to do it by hand. It’d be great to have all of these memories in a modern app!

  8. @sinky Been using #DayOneApp for over 10 years now and still love it. It has way more features than the Apple journal app. Been very happy with my use of it and it’s fun to look back on so many memories.

  9. I rely heavily on journaling. My private entries go into Day One and have since the app was first released. My more public-facing journaling is done on my Wordpress site. Looking for a way to get my WordPress posts automatically imported into my Day One journal, I wrote this python script. Posting in case anyone else finds it helpful:

  10. My software ()’s “on this day” feature was especially rich this morning:
    - 16 years ago today a more hopeful version of myself sent out invites to 20 of my local friends hoping to increase our sense of social proprioception (1).
    - 19 years ago today, I wrote about the loss of liner notes with digital music inspired by this piece(2).
Amazing both of these links are still up!

Now you see me, now you don’t.

  12. My digital detox is officially over! 🎉 The wheels may have fallen off at the end, but I got there.

Here is my final post about it (until I start another).

  13. My current iPhone setup for July.

I switch my home screen around each to reset my muscle memory and try to stick with the apps on the single page. All other apps have to be searched for. The only social media app I have on my phone is @MonaApp.

  18. @techprofessor @kylewritescode Be interesting to see if it is good enough to tempt me away from Day One. I just love reading ‘On This Day’ in #DayOneApp

  19. Apologies that I believe I may have asked this before, but: anyone have an idea of how I might be able to use #IFTTT to auto-feed Mastodon “toots” into my #DayOneApp journal? I’d rather not have to go to the faff of putting them in manually, ‘cos you know, I’m, like, a bit of a lazy so…rt…

  20. While I’m nursing a welcome coffee… I’m wondering if there’s any way for #DayOneApp to auto-import my Mastodon ‘toots’, as I did with BlooBirbNet™. I miss BBN less than I thought I would, but it would be nice for #DayOne to pull in what I post to my Mastodon, without me having to enter them manually.

There: even in 2022, my concerns often look so small. I suppose that’s something to be grateful for.
