  1. So let’s talk about #Texas, and #primaries and interference. I’ll admit that maybe it’s sour grapes, as I love Jasmine, and I feel she was done dirty by Colbert first, and the TX #GOP Supreme Court, who absolutely interfered with the vote in her home county second. That said, I will support #Talarico as the candidate, but I do it with the full recognition of the racism at play.

Some other interesting news, Sen #Cornyn will have to face a runoff with Ken #Paxton. Both of them are horrible humans, but I hope Paxton wins because he’ll be easier to beat in the general. Cornyn is a powerhouse with a lot of industry support, because he’s never met a lobbyist he wouldn’t suck off.

Al Green is in danger of losing his seat, it’s gone to a runoff. His opponent is a pretty awesome young dude, and #Green is 80, so... young electorate could go either way.

Dan #Crenshaw lost his seat. This pleases me. #Dems did pretty well, all #gerrymandering considered.

  2. The week started on a high note for Texas Democrats.

#Taylor #Rehmet’s state Senate win over Republican Leigh Wambsganss with some 57 percent of the vote resonated from Fort Worth to Washington.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-South Dakota) said Tuesday that the election showed Republicans
    “need to up our game.”

In Texas, Democrats took it as an especially encouraging harbinger for their U.S. Senate race,
which could factor into the party’s long-shot push to win back the upper chamber of Congress this fall.

They already saw an opening because the GOP incumbent, Sen. #John #Cornyn,
has struggled in his primary contest against a scandal-plagued challenger, state Attorney General #Ken #Paxton, who could make the November election more competitive should he be the nominee.

  3. On today's episode of #FascismInTheUSA...

#Cornyn Says #FBI Will Help Find #Texas Lawmakers Who Left State

The senator said the agency had agreed to help locate Democratic state legislators who departed to try to block a vote on congressional maps. Democrats said #FederalLawEnforcement was being misused.

"Senator John Cornyn, Republican of Texas, said on Thursday that the F.B.I. had agreed to his request to help track down dozens of Democratic Texas state lawmakers who left the state to prevent a vote on a redistricting plan.

"The activation of federal agents could create a standoff between the Trump administration and state leaders in Illinois, where many of the absent #Democrats have taken refuge.

"It was not clear on Thursday morning whether federal agents had actually taken action in the case, or what role they might eventually play.

"Gov. JB Pritzker of Illinois scoffed at the idea that federal agents could be deployed against the Texas lawmakers present in his state, calling it 'a lot of grandstanding.'

" 'The reality is that all that he has said is that the F.B.I. has been authorized to locate the House Democrats — nothing more,' Mr. Pritzker told reporters at the Illinois State Fair on Thursday. 'I welcome the F.B.I. coming to the state,' he added. 'But they won’t be arresting anyone because there is no federal law that prohibits those Texas House Democrats from being here.'

"Mr. Pritzker has previously said that federal law enforcement agents might be used in an attempt to #intimidate lawmakers, even if the agents did not have cause to make arrests.

"Several of the #TexasDemocrats in Illinois said that as of Thursday morning, no federal agents had been seen or reported at the lawmakers’ hotel in St. Charles, about 25 miles west of Chicago.

"The whereabouts of the Texas lawmakers are widely known, but until now at least, they had considered themselves safe from arrest because they were far from the jurisdiction of Texas law enforcement agencies.

" 'I am proud to announce that Director #KashPatel has approved my request for the F.B.I. to assist state and local law enforcement in locating runaway Texas House Democrats,' Mr. Cornyn said in a statement.

"In his letter on Tuesday requesting the bureau’s assistance, Mr. Cornyn argued that the Democratic lawmakers might have violated state bribery laws by accepting money from outside groups to support their efforts to prevent a vote in the Texas House on a redrawn political map.

"No criminal warrants have actually been filed against the lawmakers in Texas. The speaker of the Texas House has issued civil warrants, saying that the Democrats violated rules of attendance for that chamber, but those warrants have not been considered enforceable outside the state during previous legislative walkouts."

SPACE SHUTTLE DISCOVERY TO BE MOVED FROM SMITHSONIAN TO TEXAS COSTING $85 MILLION CORNYN CRUZ DEAL
    Spread the word

Deep within the bill is a provision added by Texas' senators to transfer a "space vehicle" to a NASA center "involved in the administration of the Commercial Crew Program" and "placed on public exhibition at an entity within the Metropolitan Statistical Area where such center is located."

  5. @ProPublica This is #TexAss "Law by guess and by golly." Instead of thought, research and consideration of inputs from constituents and experts, Tex-Ass just throws something out and patches it later. What can you expect from #cruz, #abbott and #cornyn?

  6. Senators are privately (and publicly) saying they hope Donald Trump
💥stays out of the internal election to replace #Mitch #McConnell as Senate GOP leader.

    Why it matters:
None of them know — or it's a damn good secret — whether the felon-candidate will make an endorsement.

But senators and advisors fear a Trump intervention could turn the secret ballot leader election into a public feud.

"I said, 'Sir, if I was you, I would stay out of the race, because there's no win for you in this,'" Sen. #Markwayne #Mullin (R-Okla.) told us about a recent call with Trump.

"I hope not," said Sen. #Thom #Tillis, when asked if he thinks Trump will weigh in. "I think outside influence could be problematic."

"He's offered some views on it to me,"Sen. #Josh #Hawley (R-Mo.) told us. "It's safe to say he has a pretty consistent prediction of who he thinks it'll be." -- Hawley said he did not know if Trump would weigh in.

    Between the lines:
This the first real competitive Senate GOP leadership race of the Trump-era,
and his endorsement still carries a lot of weight with a segment of the conference.

McConnell has had a tumultuous relationship with the pussy-grabber.

    The top two candidates
    — Sens. John #Thune and John #Cornyn
    — each have had rocky relationships with Trump.
However, they have worked to make amends.

After Jan. 6, Thune denounced Trump and initially endorsed Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) for president.

Cornyn has said the GOP needed to move on from Trump.

Senate sources do not talk about Sen. Rick #Scott's (R-Fla.) bid as seriously as Thune's or Cornyn's, though he has a good relationship with Trump.
"Sen. Scott is focused on dramatically changing the way the Senate operates and creating a member-driven process," according to spokesperson McKinley Lewis.

Sources often describe Thune as the likely favorite,
though they say not to discount how much Cornyn's long history of hard-dollar fundraising for Senate campaigns means to people.

Cornyn told us it's been a few weeks since he spoke with Trump about the leadership race.

But he visited Mar-a-Lago a couple months ago "to talk about planning for the future,"
adding they've been "visiting with some of the transition folks."

Mullin said Trump "likes" Thune despite their rocky past.

The Oklahoma Republican has publicly backed Thune.

Some sources suspect there could be a late entry:
NRSC Chair Steve #Daines (R-Mont.) is the most-floated name.

    The bottom line:
There's not a lot of incentive for senators benefiting from both Thune and Cornyn's aggressive fundraising efforts to commit too early.

"If one of them felt that they really had a majority, I think they would not be shy about saying that,
but I don't think anybody does," Hawley said.
