My unpopular take is that American taxpayers should never be on the hook to pay for lethal weapons that are given to other nations' governments. IF a US citizen wants to help fund the military of other nations, the way I think it should be handled is that all barriers should be ended that would prevent them from buying treasury bonds from, or sending earmarked donations to, the foreign nations they wish to support.
This is what my grandparents did when they bought Israeli savings bonds back in the 1960's, in the years before 1974 when funding the IDF became a regular line item that US tax payers were obligated for.
"Funny" how the regime that was elected under a promise of "America First" has been pushing for more massive burdens on US taxpayers to fund foreign armies, using deceitful rhetoric that these are "arms sales", when they are in fact transferred at the USA's citizens' expense.
As always with this stuff - I am not holding my breath to see this change. Oh well.
