  1. The way we think about anniversaries changes with time, especially those linked with loss.

My niece Morgan, if everything had gone to plan, would have been born on August 18th. That means this week she would have turned 15. Things didn't to plan however, for either her or my sister.

Initially the 18th was about loss, not just of her, but also of my own realisation that having children could no longer be in my future either. Then we spent over a decade celebrating Morgan by sending gifts in her name to children of our family and friends. Now, I've reached a point where I am able to celebrate my life as it is, able to see the doors that have stayed open or appeared because of my life taking a different path.

So, today ##throwbackthursday and tomorrow I will be celebrating what life has offered. Not to boast, but to show that life can still have value if it does not feature children. To be honest about the fact that letting go takes time, but you can end up in a place where you have not just come to terms with the new normal, but where you truly believe you have gained through walking your different path. Not the same, just different, but still gained none the less.
