https://denodell.com/blog/browsers-treat-big-sites-differently

Catch of the Day: The Dawn of the Browser War! ⚔️🪟
Hey Retro Fans!
Just yesterday we celebrated Netscape Navigator, and today, its greatest historical rival promptly showed up in our logs. Someone visited us using Internet Explorer 3.0 on Windows 95!
The year is 1996: Microsoft releases IE 3.0, officially kicking off the first great browser war. This version was an absolute milestone. Not only was it the first Microsoft browser to feature the iconic blue "e" logo, but it was also the first commercial browser to support Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)! Unfortunately for webmasters, this also marked the beginning of the infamous "Optimized for Internet Explorer" era.
The fact that this 30-year-old piece of software is still being booted up on a genuine Windows 95 machine today to fetch lightning-fast pure HTML text via FrogFind is absolutely mind-blowing. The Frog pond unites them all – no matter which side of the browser war you were on back then!
Stay retro and peaceful!

https://winfuture.de/news,158018.html

Opera GX wants to come to Linux? 🤣 Good luck.
Opera was bought by the chinese, and has become full of slop left and right.
The original team left and made #Vivaldi. That's the browser to download.

"I want my MTV...as long as it's the Java version in IE4."
MTV's website in 1997 was a hodgepodge of technologies: Java, JavaScript, frames and more. The quality of your user experience depended on which browser you used: Netscape or IE. https://cybercultural.com/p/browser-war-1990s/ #InternetHistory #BrowserWar

Okay, look. Chromium's monopoly is definitely a concern. But Firefox is also not the answer here.
In a way, you are giving Firefox leeway to do as they want since they are the only thing stopping Chromium's monopoly. That's equally wrong.
Use the better, more secure technology, until we have something better. Don't use Firefox because it's not Chromium - that's definitely not healthy.

I have better things to do than searching for a new default Browser today. -_- Thanks Mozilla
I guess I will try Zen Browser, Vivaldi, Opera, and whatever else I can find even though I favor not using something Chrome based.

I don't think #Mozilla is going to be bought by a chinese tech firm like #Opera did.
What is going to happen is simple: an investment firm is going to buy what's left and run the company to the ground and everyone will use #Chrome.

CW: Angular, light rant
Preparation for a job interview tomorrow.
The profile requires #Angular.
So I browse the Angular blog.
Learn about angular.dev as new home for the documentation + tutorial + playground. So I jump over there to get a sense.
„We're working hard on supporting Firefox. In the meantime please use another browser.“
Oh my! What's this? #BrowserWar again? „works best in IE“
Will they ever learn it…?

You think Chrome is fast?
Firefox has surpassed Chrome on Speedometer 🚀
Firefox cares about your Privacy 🛟
Give it a try!

@nixCraft I have long since decided for myself that one-for-all doesn't (and will never again) cut it.
Personally I'm a devoted Firefox user and just about all my daily work is done with it. I will not, on principle, use any M$ browser ever again unless forced at gunpoint.
On the few occasions where Firefox just doesn't work right, I'm now using Brave (Chromium engine but without Google spying on me).
I think ratio is about 97% Firefox and 3% Brave.

“Microsoft Edge runs on the same technology as Chrome, with the added trust of Microsoft.” Haha, nice one. An ad injected by the browser, when you visit the Chrome download site. #bigtech #microsoft #browserwar

But the worst here isn't that #Google is actively against the #openWeb: it's that in contrast to the first #browserWar, there is really nobody left to stand up to them.
Consider for example @davew's write-up on Google's effort to deprecate #HTTP
http://this.how/googleAndHttp/
and consider that #Firefox, the only actual alternative, is also on Google's page:
https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2015/04/30/deprecating-non-secure-http/
albeit less aggressively so. -
I'm sure people have different ideas about what does it mean to support the #openWeb. I think first and foremost it means allowing users (on both sides of the connection) to use the protocols and file formats of their choice. Every time a browser fails to implement (or worse decides to remove) support for a standard protocol or file format, it's failing the open web. Half-assing implementation of web standards was basically #Microsoft's staple behavior during the first #browserWar.

I don't think people appreciate the role that #OperaSoftware played in fostering the #OpenWeb and #IndieWeb during the first #browserWar (when the #OperaBrowser was still built on their proprietary #Presto engine), and a fortiori the role it had in their demise (when they switched to being “just another #WebKit/#Blink skin”), despite their browser never even reaching a 3% market share.

I come with #Firefox, #Google imposes me its #recaptcha, sometimes asks to come later. I installed an #extension to change #UserAgent, set it to pretend to be #Chrome (on Google only). Visited without problems.
P.S. I search on #DuckDuckGo.
