Anyone know what a reasonable price on an LTO-5 tape drive (just the drive is), and whether a drive like this one, for example, can have the more, uh... HP specific parts shucked off to just have what would fit into a standard 5.25 inch slot with a SAS connector?

I'm not specifically looking at this one, precisely, but I'm not willing to fork over 100 bucks just to find that there's no way for me to hook it up. I'd take LTO-5 or above; that's the first generation, to my understanding, that has an actual file system, which would make my life a lot easier.

Today is PC clean & update day. I fucked up royally. In the process of cloning a drive, I decided it would be fun to drop it while removing it. RIP. It’s making the clicky doom noises. Taking it for data recovery tomorrow.

Phew, backed up all my important projects and files from my hard drive onto my sd card using a dock connected to my steam deck and I feel infinitely less data naked. Next I'll backup THAT onto a usb drive to have a snapshot of everything I've saved today.

My organizing is a mess i have duplicate files galore but id rather that than lose all progress on a project I cared about that went on hiatus

Time to simplify and size down offsite backups. What's the best bang-for-the-buck in 1TB flash-drives these days? Something with USB-C and USB-A connectors would be nice, but not a requirement. Always leery of the $29 units on Amazon, but also don't want to spend $200 if I don't have to.
