While #RSS and similar technologies are pretty standardized, their links aren't, so if the Australian news are fed through RSS too, maybe the link follows a pretty different pattern than that of the UK one.
About the news, going by this wiki:
News entries are fetched from CDN. Metadata for each entry is stored and queried from an internal SQLite database. Official software uses sqlite for processing.
Also asked some AI how to dump news on the original #Switch, and it said JKSV, a NRO homebrew for managing saves, may be the best call. According to the same reply, supposedly the news are stored on the save with ID
0x8000000000000090. But since even the most functional AIs still hallucinate some times, please someone correct me if I'm wrong, and also using hashtags for better reach (another one, also automatically attached to the OP but not replies: #datahoarder). -

I have a ton of old obsolete random CD-ROMs 'round here from the past four decades or so
everything from random magazine disks to obsolete local computer programs to phone books from 1994 to obscure video games
Most of them I can't find online. Would it be worth it to rip and preserve them somehow or somewhere, and if so, how is the best way to do it? Are there any real legal risks I'd take with this?
