I'm frustrated that it seems like the place to go for #protest actions is #Instagram. I'm not sure for how much longer that will be the case, given the #MetaPlatform's capitulation to #fascists, but it seems like most groups that are organizing right now have nothing on their websites and everything on the mainstream #SocialMedia platforms. Does anyone have any advice for how to find out about protests and local organizing on #Mastodon and the #Fediverse? I have no desire to go back on any corporate-owned social media platform, and I suspect that protest info won't be permitted there for much longer, but I also want to stay in the loop.

Going for an interview for an IT support apprenticeship in a few days, really hoping I get it because it will be a huge step towards retrading into a new career for me.
I can't physically keep up with welding fabricating anymore, perk of my time in the army.

My whole body hurts and lowering myself down to sit is nasty - struggled getting out the bath lastnight! I have started working out and this is after 1 day of half hr on treadmill, and yesterday I did a 20 minute beginners workout with squats and planks. Is this normal and should I be resting until it fades or keep at it?

So how useful and practical are 3d printers that don't cost thousands of dollars and someone might buy for home use these days?
And what are the concerns about things like indoor air quality and contamination from the device or printing materials?
And how much maintenance do 3d printers require? What if you let one sit for a month and then come back to it?
And how bad are they in terms of plastic waste?
I'm going to need more data, because the kid (14YO) is not going to stop agitating for getting one for at least the next month.
And my first stabs at searching have been fucking useless because SEO and AI slop plus AI search results have destroyed my ability to find things online.

CW: Requesting career advice in a long winded way
Lately, when trying to find a new job and looking at postings for similar jobs, I don't want to do any of them. To me, this suggests that what I really need is a #CareerChange, but I have no idea how to go about it.
Most career shifts are framed in terms of asking, "What do you want to do?" And for me, I've found that question isn't useful. It's not about what I want to do, it's about the kind of work environment I'm in. Are there clear processes in place? Is the place adequately staffed? Are the deadlines reasonable? Are the expectations clearly stated? You can't really know these things until you work somewhere, and that's less about the work itself and more about the workplace culture.
So I find myself thinking, Is there a career where I'm more likely to land in the sort of places? Or is the slow death march of #capitalist #neoliberalism just making that sort of job difficult to find in any career path?

In the meantime, if anyone has any advice for gently but firmly setting #boundaries with people, I'm open to them! Ways to phrase things that are more polite but still assertive, would be helpful. Ways to not seem like I'm blaming the other person or suggesting that they're wrong for asking for things, even if they're things I'm not in a place to give would also be appreciated!

Since several people liked my post above #AskingForAdvice about the #Novavax versus #mRNA #covid19 #vaccines, I thought I'd share this article from Science magazine that I found on the subject: https://www.science.org/content/article/should-you-pick-novavax-s-covid-19-shot-over-mrna-options.
It sounds like overall more research is needed, like so many other things related to #covid. But I appreciate folks weighing in with their knowledge of the #vaccine options and #ImmuneResponse!
And ultimately, we're still in a #pandemic. #CovidIsNotOver, and the best thing we can all do to protect each other and ourselves is to #MaskUp and get the latest vaccine, whether it's Novavax, #Pfizer or #Moderna.
If other folks who are #CovidCautious or #ZeroCovid or know about #Immunology or #epidemiology want to weigh in, please do! I've boosted several responses from folks giving more info, some in favor of mRNA vaccines and some in favor Novavax.

#CovidCautious folks, a question about the new #covid19 #vaccines came up in my local group and I was hoping folks here could weigh in. Is it better to get the #Novavax or #mRNA vaccine for #covid, especially in terms of preventing infection and transmission?
For a long time in #StillCoviding circles, I was hearing that Novavax seemed to give broader immunity to a wider range of variants. But more recently, I've heard that Novavax doesn't illicit as strong a T-cell response as the mRNA vaccines. This claim seems counter to what I'd heard previously, and I'm hoping those who know more than I do can weigh in.
Regardless, I realize that getting any #vaccine is better than not getting vaccinated. And I know that #CovidIsNotOver and will #WearAMask because that's the only reliable way we can prevent infection and transmission.
Antivaxxers and covid deniers/minimizers who respond will be blocked.

When playing videos hosted on my Nextcloud from the web GUI, videos stall and buffer like crazy in Firefox, but play smoothly in Chromium.
I have been having this playback issue for years and had learned to live with it. I only use Firefox Linux and had never tried with a Blink-based browser before, I have to say I am shocked.
I thought it was because the server (Hetzner VPS) and backend storage (Wasabi S3) are both in Germany and I am in Canada, but Chromium is proving me wrong.
Is there anything I can do to have smooth Nextcloud video playback in Firefox? Some magic Nginx setting? A video decoding library to install? An obscure Firefox flag?
