No one is going to give me a fucking serious answer because I'm a weak minded piece of shit according to the majority of the internet…
But do any other autistic people have this relationship with spice where it's like… I'm not a super champ but I do REALLY REALLY enjoy certain foods like tonight I got a street truck paneer dosa and I'm SO hungry and my mouth thinks it wants more?? But also a few bites is enough and I don't feel capable of eating more even though I'm HUNGRY and it TASTES REALLY GOOD? But I just… can't… eat… more…
Like my "flavor" intake is maxed out EVEN THOUGH IT'S DELICIOUS I just can't tolerate a lot AND EVEN THOUGH I'm still ravenous…

Do you know what she said was the most frustrating thing about being sick? When the medical field isn’t able to diagnose you quickly, correctly, or even at all. After all, how can you treat something if you don’t know what it is?

Feeling like a genius bc i figured out that my sandwich will fit into the dipping vessel if i cut it in half 🤣😭🫠
In "the before times" this would have been deeply distressing for me, but now, with this technological development, dipping vessel depth is much less formidable/more manageable of a problem
Also, for context: im pretty sure i have #ARFID and eating sandwiches is itself a recent evolution, im so fkn proud of how far ive come 😭

Does anyone know of any recipe books or forums for #supertasters? Are you a supertaster? I'm unable to find much in the way of resources. I'm considering trying to create a #recipe swap for supertasters so we can share tried and true recipes for the holidays. Anyone else interested? #AskFedi #AskFediverse #ARFID #SPD #SensoryProcessingSensitivity

My kid has ARFID. This means he can only eat very few things. My wife created a pancake recipe that he like and that provides him with important nutrients.
A few weeks ago I asked her to write it down just in case something happens to her. I case she dies I want to be able to keep him alive. It's better to be prepared. -
CW: Musings over ADHD med combo; briefly mentions RSD, disgust reflex, and suspected ARFID
NGL, it's honestly kinda funny to us that there was such resistance to the very concept of us taking a combination of meds to help us with our ADHD (tecnically AuDHD) struggles, given that the meds don't have any known negative interactions and actually cancel out some of the negatives of each other 😅
e.g.,
Lisdexamfetamine (Elvanse®)
- Insomnia or disturbed sleep
- Increased blood pressure
- Increased pulse
Guanfacine (Intuniv®)
- Drowsiness
- Decreased blood pressure
- Decreased pulse
We're up to 4 mg of guanfacine nightly now (as of Monday), alongside 60 mg lisdex (split across 2 x 30 mg doses, taken ~2 hours apart) daily.
Aside from some minor titration issues whilst our body has been getting used to the introduction of guanfacine, we've found it is beginning to help with sleep and has noticeably helped lower our blood pressure and pulse.
It's also having the pleasant effects of reducing baseline anxiety, which is a key component of our Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD), and lowering our disgust reflex, which became more prominent during the summer and which we think is a major factor in the increasing ARFID-like symptoms we experienced (and are still trying to recover from).
Unlike with SSRIs or SNRIs, it doesn't make us feel numb or unable to feel sad. That makes sense, as it's basically selectively blocking some alpha-2A adrenergic receptors, which in turn is decreasing activity within our sympathetic nervous system.
If we continue to do well at 4 mg, we'll probably ask to remain there, rather than trial going higher, as 4 mg seems to be the sweet spot for a lot of folks, and is the max dose of a single pill. We could in theory try up to 7 mg, but we're not in a rush there.

...#diabetes, food #allergies, #arfid (food aversion), gastrointestinal issues, specialized #diets, and #food prefs are not limited to the privileged...yet these needs are dismissed as invalid concerns for us who are "poor" or #homeless.
...also, little to no consideration is given for needs of hot or prepared meals to soothe right now hunger, or even a simple awarness that we lack access to cook or safely store items.
*why hand out frozen chickens when lighting a fire would get us arrested?*

My loved one is sick, please help.
I'm posting a link to an Amazon wish list for a loved one who has been diagnosed with failure to thrive. The problem now is that Medicaid insurance isn't paying for Kate Farms, the only liquid nutrition that the child can stomach. The child vomited up the ensure because it's got dairy and they're allergic to dairy.
I been making the shakes from scratch from a protein powder that is safe for them, and coconut milk. It is tolerated much better. I'm doing this while I'm fighting insurance, to avoid hospitalization. I am running out of money to fund this. If anyone can circulate or buy anything from this list, that would help so much. I can feel the approval on the horizon, it will probably take another week or two to go through and then ship.

I just heard a really good interview with Sarah Cox of the butterfly foundation about #ARFID on ABC News Radio as part of the hourly news. There's an article covering it that you may find useful.

CW: Food talk, food sensitivities, ARFID
Curious how many #ARFID and/or #ActuallyAutistic folks in my feeds with sensory issues related to eating have switched to meat substitutes not out of any worry about animals or ecological concerns but simply because it’s a nearly guaranteed consistent texture.
I nearly can’t do whole meat cuts anymore… finding #tofu to be something I look forward to.

Twin study of fussy eaters reveals new clues
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c5yj7nqe7zgo
Parents are not to blame for "fussy eating", researchers say, as a large study suggests fussy eating tendencies are mostly down to genetics rather than parenting styles.

Today’s eating-related discovery? Mood affects our taste buds. Positive moods can make our taste buds more receptive to sweet and less receptive to sour. Negative emotions do the opposite. Depression can blunt our taste buds. Anxiety, fear, and stress also play a role. 🤯 #ActuallyAutistic #ARFID #ED

CW: cw: death, abuse - Doctors' ‘arrogance’ killed our son, heartbroken Bristol family says
- news story from 2021-

Oliver McGowan died from a reaction to olanzapine. McGowan was autistic; it seems like some autists are very sensitive to neuroleptics and other dopamine-blocking agents such as the gut motility agent Reglan / metoclopramide.
My daughter (not autistic, but I am) suffered from a type of severe adverse drug reaction called neuroleptic malignant syndrome from taking Reglan in combination with other medications. I suspect there might be a drug metabolism issue due to a CYP2D6 variant, but I don't know since her doctors refused to do pharmacogenetics testing. For more on this -
https://zeroes.ca/@Rhyothemis/112242152107016857Olanzapine and Reglan are sometimes used to treat eating disorders such as ARFID.
