I'm looking for a way to track my running shoes. I would prefer some software for Linux, but I'm okay with something for Android as well, and as a last resort, some cloudy service that I have to babysit myself.
I use a Garmin watch with Gadgetbridge for Android, which automatically exports my activities as GPX-files. I automatically sync the files to my computer, and I don't mind if I have to manually import the files in the software myself.
I'm currently only using open source software and nothing touches the Internet so far. I would prefer if it stayed that as well.
I have tried keeping a record with pen and paper, which works, but as a busy dad, I would prefer something less time consuming for now.
Do any of you awesome people here have any recommendations for me?

I just want to ensure a strong signal throughout a Brooklyn apartment and maybe have a PiHole somewhere in between the Internet and my home network. Do you have any pointers?
PCMag tells me the TP-Link Archer AXE75 could cheaply fit the bill, anything I should be on the lookout for regarding budget models?

Hello everyone! Bird found in distress. Help needed.
So this Eurasian Jay was found on a tree today, being there and screaming for many hours already, as told by people living here.The bird was clearly in distress not moving, but turning their head often. After that the bird carefully got off the tree and dropped to ground. Waited for a while silent, still as in pain, now started yelling again.
My guess would be that it is some injury considering all said and the fact there is a house with huge glass windows right here. Gusty winds are present. The weather is not particularly hot today, 25C (77F), but was much hotter on Monday.
What is the right thing to do in this situation? Any advise and boosts would be greatly appreciated.

As of today at 1:11pm EDT, I'm on the market for a 50" Mini-LED/OLED dumb TV in the US. I remember a while back that people were talking about commercial displays or hospitality displays to avoid the built-in spyware of "Smart" TVs, but in 2026, both of these also seem to have built-in spyware (although business-oriented). I just need 3 HDMI + RCA inputs, and an Optical Audio output, don't need any software on the TV itself.
Do you have any pointer? Or should I just take the L and get any smart TV, never set up network and hope for the best?

None of my searches on Moby Games have yielded anything and I’m starting to believe I entirely made up this game in my mind.

I have migrated from a popular mastodon instanced to a self hosted gotosocial instance. Gotosocial is great and it works well. But one thing I am missing is discovery. It seems that self hosted single user instance limits discovery. I am missing out on finding new awesome people through the feed.
Do others who have tried this type of setup have any tips?

Okay nerds (affectionate). I spent not a little time DuckDuckGoing earlier for advice on this front, but wasn't able to get sufficient information that satisfied me, so I'm #AskingFedi for advice from #DIYers and other creative people.
As of late, I've been finding myself out at night in areas with less street lighting and whatnot (think local parks that don't close at sunset, but at a set time year round). I picked up a pair of small LED headlamps on sale today to help with that. Set to the low setting, they're fine, and I'm usually using my phone while out doing these things... but it occurs to me that since I have two of these, it might not hurt to modify one to a more night vision friendly red color instead.
Most information I've found for projects of this sort are designed for small 2x AA or AAA wand style flashlights, and usually are just like "buy some red wrapping cellophane and rubber band a couple to few layers over the end of the flashlight" which given the form factor of my light isn't ideal. I did also eye tape designed for temporarily fixing car tail light housings, but wasn't sure how well something like that would work on a flashlight.
How would you go about making a red lens cover/filter for a small headlamp? I attached a picture of the units I bought, if that's a help for what sort of advice you might give.
Edit: More information that's come up in the replies I've gotten so far: I don't have a soldering iron and don't think I know anyone local with one I can borrow, so replacing the LED with a red one is probably not within the budget constraints I had in mind here. It does look like the front plate of the light will come off with a hex or star bit if I do find a soldering iron to borrow, so that idea isn't completely out. Someone has suggested I look for a broken bike tail light and rig up an attachment with magnets, so I might poke my nose in at a local bike shop and see if they have anything broken they could spare or sell on the cheap. Magnets are easily picked up from the place I bought the headlamps originally. I'm still open to other ideas if anyone has anything else for me to consider.
