Apichatpong Weerasethakul – Der Schamane der Geschichte

Der Himmel wird überschätzt, da ist Huay ganz sicher. Dort sei nichts zu finden. Huay muss es wissen, immerhin ist sie von den Toten zurückgekehrt, um ihren Witwer Boonmee auf seinem letzten – vielleicht auch nur: vorläufig letzten – Weg zu begleiten. Für «Uncle Boonmee erinnert sich an seine früheren Leben» gewann der bildende Künstler und Filmemacher Apichatpong Weerasethakul 2010 die Goldene Palme in Cannes.

MEMORIA, like all of Apichatpong Weerasethakul's films, is filled with ghosts--people neither dead nor alive, fabricated like the world itself anew on the screen, and thus liberated (to their awe & terror) from our biologically limited perception of life, space, time. *Stunning*. Weerasethakul knows that aside from injury or illness, art is the closest humans can get to experiencing death while alive; cinema as dissolution of bodily existence.
