Coppola's stuck in a past way of thinking that provides the absolute worst part of what is otherwise a potential masterpiece.
I loved the visual and technical artistry in Megalopolis, and outside of plot and dialogue, it IS a masterpiece.
Overall, it's a mess.
There is a quote in Megadoc that rightly notes that movies are visual art.
As that, Megalopolis succeeds.

The modern history of African nations is, to say the least, clouded by those who seek to protect their perceived innocence and/or non-involvement. This film is a curative.
The Democratic Republic of Congo was a Belgian colony, then gained its independence, then was seen by western influences as important, and so was ‘soft-colonized,’ to coin a term.
Those in the Black Community, including Abby Lincoln and other jazz artists, were not having any of it. So they caused a disturbance in the UN General Assembly chamber.
This is the story of how that came to pass. It is complicated, but the events leading to its conclusion are nonetheless horrifying due to that complexity.
You won’t see Dulles, Eisenhower, or Khrushchev in the same way again.

One the stranger double bills possible, but there ended up being an odd through-line of Judaism.
The documentary covered a topic of which I was previously aware: the American Bund, dedicated to the promotion of NAZI ideals in the USA prior to WWII. What I didn’t know was the extent of their coverage in the nation. As is pointed out narratively, just because the movement is gone doesn’t mean the people or spirit has disappeared. All too prescient.

The adult characters are seen to be mean, short-sighted, and generally easily fooled or overcome.The young people seem to have the right attitude by today’s standards: enjoy youth while you are young! Still, you feel sad for the young hero, as his future is far from rosy, and getting away from his home life is the only option that’s logical.

The first is the story of how four young black men decided to sit in at a lunch counter which spawned all the counter sit ins that summer and into the next year. They sought no permission to do so, because it obviously needed to be done. So they did.
The second is how Houston students were inspired by the Gainsborough Four, staged their own, and changed the cities cafés, restaurants, cinemas, & Astrodome.

When faced with something which seems too big to deal with, break things down into smaller, easily accomplished tasked. When you’ve done one thing, move on to the next one, and the next, and so on, until you’re done.
When faced with something similar to what has happened before, examine what worked when it was done then. It will likely work again, as long as it is adapted accordingly.

A slow-moving but effective tale of discovery. The hero traverses great geographical distances, and bridges a vast chasm from late-Victorian arrogant bigotry to more scientific and enlightened time of the mid-1920s.
The ending seems fanciful, but as there is no surety of anything in life, who is to say what is ‘too improbable?’

Incendies, the 2010 drama directed by Denis Villeneuve, has left me without words to describe it other than powerful and masterful.

Watch it knowing as little as possible about the plot and let it unfold and envelope you. If you appreciate the art of #cinema, this is a reward.
I was devastated starting with the bus scene, less than halfway in.

First off, this is a horror film. Demonic possession and gore are involved. If this is not your jam, skip the film.
If you enjoy that sort of cinematic presentation, check this out. It perfectly encapsulates the late-’70s hysteria about Satanism and Psychic Phenomenons that American TV had at the time.
And you will never watch an Antman film in the same way as before. David Dastmalchian is brilliant here as the host of the show.
