Defrosted the last pumpkin pie. This batch was particularly delicious and I will remember it fondly.
Happy pi day!

A lot of Pi Day Pizza promos happening today here in Canada for 3.14 day.
Which is weird because we're usually day-month-year (14.03.2025) and that certainly doesn't make any sense LOL
Just another bit of conflict to add between our countries during these politically charged times.

@jacekstaszczuk 1) Pewnie. 😁
2) Nie wiem - jak chcesz.Aaa! Klasa mojej żony, dawno temu, popełniła coś takiego.

For St. Louisans, March 14 is #314Day! ⚜️ ☎️ 🎉
In celebration, I'm sharing a tiny tech time capsule — a collection of textfiles related to St. Louis-area #BBS networks!
I gathered these 30 years ago when I was cosysop of "Something in the Attic BBS" and seeking to attract more users.
Brace yourself for all manner of capitalization! (PIllowNet, SPORKnet, StupidNET)
Ending "z"s!
And lots of exclamation marks!

Happy #314day to all who celebrate. Say it loud- I’m from the ‘Lou and I’m proud!

I've been sharing a lot lately about "IGS", a plain-text language for transmitting graphics and animation.
In 1993, Fire Escape began to track which BBSes supported graphics protocols like IGS or the far-more widely used RIPscrip.
Unfortunately, RIPscrip got too late of a start. Its adoption by BBSes in St. Louis began ticking up at exactly the time the scene was collapsing.

WWIV was the overwhelming favorite BBS software in St. Louis through the 1990s.
Interestingly, the second-place software switched in mid-1993 from Telegard to Wildcat.

The peak of the #BBS scene was June 1994, when St. Louis had 361 bulletin boards.
But within a year, the freefall had begun. People abandoned #BBSing in favor of the world wide web. By 1998, there were fewer than 100 boards on Fire Escape's list.

For St. Louis BBSers, this is not "Pi Day." This is #314Day !
If there was a superstar of the #STL #BBS scene in the 1990s, it had to be Fire Escape.
For 10 years, she published an authoritative, detailed directory of BBSes in the #314 area code. It was the lifeblood of our local scene.
A few years back, I scraped all the directories and did some data analysis to see how it changed over time.

Tornado warning for North St. Louis County and parts of St. Charles County and the Metro East.

The April elections in Missouri are just around the corner. 🇺🇸
#STLtoday and the League of Women Voters have prepared a nonpartisan guide to nearly 800 candidates in hundreds of races, plus 110 ballot measures across St. Louis, St. Charles, Jefferson and Franklin counties and #StLouis city. 🗳️
Always a mammoth endeavor, but now it's here!

Fun historical note. Ten years ago, when I put together this blog series on 314 BBSes, I wrote:
"Don't call me a hacker; a hack might be more like it."
If only I had known. 🕵️

As the poet Murphy Lee would say, "I'm so St. Louis, ask my tattooist"
Happy #314day !

Since it's #314Day, here's a throwback to a blog series I did on trends in the #314 / #STL #BBS scene of the 1990s, which I found by analyzing years of data from Fire Escape's BBS Directory.

Our engineers build spacecraft that make elliptical orbits & guzzle fuel from cylindrical fuel tanks. That’s why #314Day is worth celebrating — and whether you’re baking pies or calculating #Pi today, we want to hear about it!
