  7. Any experts in the totality checker (or totality checking in general?) have any hints on a simple way to convince the computer that append for finger trees is total?

    codeberg.org/bss/idris-sized-s

The above code simply asserts it, which is also what I had to do last time in my type-aligned library.

It's "obviously" true to me, because the sizes for both the left and right arguments are decreasing: the left argument is at least missing the head and the right argument is at least missing the tail. But, I can't figure out the assert_smaller invocations to use to show that to the computer.

I'm not even sure how to begin to approach this using Accessible or WellFormed, since the recursive call is non-uniform: it's on sequences of 2-3 nodes instead of sequences of individual elements.

  8. Something relevant to working on the Braille Reader is that this is not like cracking the firmware of the BrailleNote MPower/Apex or some old synthesizer from a legal perspective. This is for all intents and purposes a series of devices that are still commercially sold, still used by hundreds of thousands of people everyday, and could still get me legally in trouble, especially if I distribute internal binaries from Humanware/APH. If this isn't done correctly, they'll just patch this in the next install, DMCA the hell out of me, and then no one will be happy and I will have probably nixed some professional relationships in the process. A lot of blind people seem to be haphazardly applying reverse engineering techniques while not thinking about the consequences and I'd rather not kick that hornet's nest.
This is a situation where you attach a flash drive and the entire display reboots and roots itself, technically a CVE. Someone could use this to hijack personal files from another person's display if they really wanted to, and I imagine Humanware will be incredibly motivated to address that, as they should be.

How do you make sure you deliver on your writerly promises?

Checking the draft, checking it twice, and checking it a third time. Then again.
My feelings change over time, so I need to keep track of what, and how I've written before. It's absolutely necessary to keep the same tone throughout the whole work, otherwise the readers may get upset.
