  1. Hey #mastodon this is something to look at! @soatok just announced v0.1.0 of their key transparency specification for the Fediverse!

    soatok.blog/2025/12/15/announc

This is an incredibly useful project, something really missing in a robust decentralized architecture.

  2. @shufflecake Elia and I have bee quite under the water recently, but we've been quietly working to this new release - mostly Elia, TBH :)

In addition to the long due test units and dev guide, we worked a lot on FLUSH and FUA requests for block device I/O. We got SCARY performances, very close and at times beyond dm-crypt in fio tests!

I think it is safe to say that performances won't be our priority from now on (at least for the Lite scheme), and we can keep focusing on new features and the roadmap to our Holy Grail: a fully hidden Linux OS!

  7. The results of the 2025 elections for the president and board members at the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR) have been botched because the results of the super-secure cryptographic e-voting system cannot be retrieved due to the "accidental loss" of a decryption key.

    iacr.org/news/item/27138

While human mistakes happen, this incident comes under very troubling circumstances.

Why does an e-voting system of an association like IACR not support t-out-of-n threshold decryption?

Why is a system where a single party can collude to invalidate the vote considered acceptable?

Wouldn't be wiser to freeze to the date of November 20th the eligibility status for voting instead of "calling to arms" IACR members who had previously decided to opt out from Helios emails?

Does the identity of some of the candidates to Director represent a problem for IACR?

  15. What's going on with Firefox Beta on Android? Tonight my Fenix installed through Obtainium on my de-googled Graphene OS did an update, and since then I cannot open it anymore. The crash log contains an ominous:

Caused by: com.google.android.play.core.review.ReviewException: -1: Review Error(-1): The Play Store app is either not installed or not the official version. (developer.android.com/referenc)

It seems caused by the PlayStoreReviewPromptController which occasionally asks you to rate Firefox Beta on the Google Play Store.

Is it just me? I filed a bug report.

  16. I usually don't post stuff about my work, but today I'll make an exception.

Working in a web3 company sometimes brings some fun. Horizen Labs (of which I'm leading the cryptography research team) is currently ongoing the most interesting day ever: the migration of the ZEN chain to the Base ecosystem (Ethereum L2). I am involved in the migration security checks and incident response.

If you don't know what that means, no worries, that's not important, it's the usual crypto fluff. What is cool is that, from the inside, this feels like the launch of some experimental starship from Cape Canaveral, all while being entrenched against a spike of corporate and personal hacking attempts. We are all sleep-deprived, and right now in our internal chat I see a flow of messages like "EON fork height reached", "RPC switched off", "Smart contract deployed and active", "Engines ready to fire", "Target hacker nr. 67 acquired, requesting permission to shoot" (some of these messages might not be accurate, because the process is still ongoing so we have to maintain operational secrecy).

This is a most crucial day for us, and very delicate, so many things can go wrong. But however it goes, I'm impressed, I think it's the first time in my life that I witness from the inside what a well-organized large team can accomplish. Fingers crossed.

  22. Well written short blog post on "sovereignty-washing", a quite apt term to describe the desperate attempt by Big Tech to brand "EU-sovereign" services which are actually not.
