#Infuse is such an overrated crock of shite. Not even close to being as good as #Plex. It literally wants you to pay a subscription fee OR NINETY-FIVE DOLLARS for lifetime Pro. What’s Pro get you? You can play 5.1 surround sound audio or DolbyVision files. One more time: even if you have a 1080p file, if it has Dolby 5.1 it’s pay up bitches or whomp whomp. But AAC 7.1 is free. Which makes perfect sense right? Can’t be because they’re charged by Dolby for the privilege and are passing on a cost since, you know.. Plex. KODi. FREE.
Plex plays everything for free. And it’s a pretty interface too. With “folder mode” in addition to metadata covers and the like. So tell me again why I need Infuse? Ninety five dollars. 😤🖕

Was reading a Reddit thread asking what everyone's favourite feature on #TVOS17 for #AppleTV is. The top response? "Clock being always present on the home screen". I shit you not.
Then someone said they really like the updated control center. Which is essentially just a small box at the top right with a couple of quick controls. An entire OS update and those are the top two. 🤔
One that I agree with is the fact that you now have 6 icons across the main iconboard screen instead of five. One of the first things I do when I jailbreak an iDevice is install an app that gives me more icons on the screen - my phone has 7x9 icons, and that's not including the dock row. So much more useful. And so it is with the AppleTV as well, especially since the "dock" at the top is the only place where you can hover over an app and get a quick view into your most recently watched shows. That's 6 now instead of 5 🎉 It's the little things..

Which is like the black samurai woman in Walking Dead not having her name mentioned at all for two or three episodes until it is just casually mentioned in passing, like we already are supposed to know it.

After a zillion emails with “hey check out this new feature!” I went back to have another look at #RemNote. Does anyone who uses it have any thoughts for better or worse on how it stacks up to other note taking apps? It’s one of those where you can use / to create a new block type within a note, like Logseq. I never got into that but then I never specifically tried to.

Took out the #AppleTV for one last ditch effort to try and force myself to like it. #Netflix app played a 4K movie but then stepped down in quality - like I had lower bandwidth or something. Endtasked it, started again, same deal. Endtasked and this time it played in proper quality. For at least 30 min. Googled the issue and apparently it’s a known and longstanding problem, NF and Apple have some sort of feud going on and NF doesn’t play nicely with Apple’s ATV app. Knew that already.
Next, installed #Emby on my Pc and tried the Emby app. Sort of worked but did not display Dolby Video file. The usual green/purple tint. Ditto #Jellyfin (aka “#SwiftFin” on ATV). #Plex works. Cannot try #Kodi because unavailable on ATV.
I cannot like this thing. Went to #GoogleTV built into my TV. Interface is just as fast. JF plays #DolbyVideo. Weirdly Emby goes into trial mode, it’s supposed to be free but I don’t care because it is not better than JF.
Will sell the ATV. Sad, but it is what it is.

After three days of intensive experimentation I’ve literally packed up my top of the line #AppleTV in its box and won’t be using it anymore. I read someone say that if you only ever buy one Apple product, let this be it. Nope. Completely the opposite experience. While there are some good aspects to it (responsiveness being one), the failures far outweigh the benefits. #GoogleTV runs rings around it. I hate the remote - lack of buttons and the feel of it, although rechargeability is a big plus. I hate the fact that it doesn’t integrate #YoutubeTV or any live TV at all. Look at the screen pics from GTV. Can’t install #KODi. #Infuse is Apple’s alternative but to play #DolbyVision or any Dolby 5.1 audio at all costs a NINETY BUCK IAP. GTV even shows you what was recorded in my YTTV DVR. And the continue watching shows things from #Netflix. NF doesn’t show up at all in the AppleTV interface. Epic fail and this time the fanboys have it dead wrong. Hundred bucks wasted but I’ll scalp it. 🤷🏻♂️

Started watching #MoneyHeist on NF. Interesting so far, and I don’t mind the fact that it’s dubbed. Honestly I don’t get people who love to watch shows in languages they don’t speak, subtitled. Subtitles force you to flick your eyes away from the action, then back to the action, then back again constantly. Nope.
Also checking out #MonkeyKing, because I loved the old live action show “Monkey” back in the 80’s. Meh. Probably won’t continue that one past a couple episodes - we’ll see.
Completed S2 of #Outlander. Loving it so far, looking forward to moar.
That’s my Saturday streaming show roundup. Why am I using Masto like a diary? Who knows.

My kid is now a first degree brown belt ("ikkyu"), the last of the ten colored ranks, meaning his next rank will be first degree black belt. We have a BB candidate class at my dojo which students are invited into in the months leading up to the full black belt test - the candidates have to do what are called ins and outs - exercises that are to be done when arriving at the dojo, and when leaving, and there is also a candidate class on Saturdays especially for them (all existing black belts are welcome to attend this class, but nobody else except the candidates themselves, of course).
Sometime next year, my kid will be invited to officially become a black belt candidate.
Estoy muy orgulloso de el! Very proud of him, and the reason I said that in Spanish is because I learned that sentence specifically so I could say it to my landscaper this morning. #karate #blackbelt #ikkyu

Kid is up for #ikkyu tomorrow (this is the last level of colored belt in #karate before black). As an instructor I will be part of the testing team. Wife asked me if this was not a conflict of interest? I said it’s literally the opposite, the other instructors know I will be even harsher than them. He will have to work, sweat and possibly bleed for this. We’re supposed to bring everything, that means sticks and knives along with sparring gear.
It’s gonna be like the entire first season of Outlander all rolled up into a few hours. (cracks knuckles)
