  2. @randomgeek yes I used to run a tiling WM my work mac #yabai github.com/asmvik/yabai was awesome for me I highly recommend .

  3. @tru Wow, that's what I call intense! 😅

I considered doing something similar since my other laptop is beautifully configured with , but then I decided just to integrate Nix Darwin with my and spice it up with tiled windows and custom taskbar...it's now pure awesomeness 👌🤘😎 :nixos: :apple:

  4. So I completely nuked my #Nix install on my #MacBook. I uninstalled #NixDarwin, uninstalled Nix, upgraded the OS, reinstalled Nix, and then ran `nix-darwin switch` on my existing config. The longest part was waiting for #macOS to update! Everything is exactly as I had it, apps, tools, config, and all! Even my tiling window manager (named #Yabai) is working great after switching to the latest version!

  5. @feijoa i previously used rectangle, but then found #yabai and it is sooo much better! i recommend to try it if you haven’t heard of it!

  6. Oh no #MacOS 14.1 doesn’t support #yabai yet 🫠

  7. @al3x i am sorry I was not clear. I actually do not use Amethyst. I have built my own tiling window manager on top of #Hammerspoon.

I indeed use Two Pane and Tall. I do not like BSP. That is also the reason #yabai did not click for me.

  8. Finally, #yabai was updated for #Macos #Sonoma but I will wait a bit more until I upgrade. Just to be sure.

  9. #sonoma: Now the wate for an #yabai update begins. Hopefully it will not take that long.

  10. Okay. #yabai. MAYBE we’re onto something here.

Edit: Aaaaand I run it and nothing happens except a terminal window opening. Does this need a blasted SCRIPT to operate? Come on.

  11. This weekend, I will try tiling window managers like #yabai and #Amethyst together with #SketchyBar as a #macOS menu alternative.

I'm already working in some form of tiling window world with #Divvy, let go the next step.

The only thing that is stopping me is that there is no default concept for a single centered window, which is my default state.

I'm sure there are ways to configure or script a solution for that too. Let's see, what the result is after this weekend.

  12. Ohhh man! After getting my setup tweaked to my liking, I hopped back over to my MacBook for some project work.

Couldn't well leave it alone before falling down the rabbit-hole and completely overhauling my experience...for the better of course!!! :apple_inc: 🤘

  13. I used to use a tiling window manager on Debian (awesomewm). Started dabbling with material shell for gnome again and absolutely missed it on my work machine! Got yabai / skhd running on macOS today and it feels SO much better. Though I need to sync the keyboard controls... and get used to them again. #macos #yabai #awesomewm #gnome #linux #debian

  14. @meowgorithm @caarlos0 I’m using #yabai + #skhd with just a basic config for both. It’s been running for a couple months and I’ve had no major complaints. It’s the closest I’ve come to finding a flow that’s relatively similar across my #mac and #linux installs.

  15. @zurg That's pretty cool!

Though, last time I was on mac I used [1] tilling window manager which is awesome though unfortunately macos desktop environment is really broken for keyboard navigation as some animations are impossible to disable making the whole process borderline nausiating :|
