These are small warheads, crammed atop a single missile, each capable of striking targets hundreds of kms apart from one another."

  3. @benfulton @carnage4life Correct, the real beginning is Facemash. IIRC it even appears in The Social Network movie.

2003 report from Harvard's student newspaper:

"The site was created entirely by Zuckerberg over the last week in October, after a friend gave him the idea. The website used photos compiled from the online facebooks of nine Houses, placing two next to each other at a time and asking users to choose the “hotter” person."

  12. Microsoft continues to dumb down the UI of Outlook. It wouldn't matter for general email users, but every feature they kill from "classic" Outlook handicaps people who use email for work.

In the latest update to the "new" Outlook Windows app, the threading "lines" of a conversation have been removed from the UI. There is no way to see where a sender forked off in the conversation tree. It is just a series of emails like Gmail's conversation view now. 🤦

  13. The simple analog ingenuity behind the common water heater seen in most US homes. Perfect video by @TechConnectify ⭐️

  15. I watched Training Day after seeing this review by Peter Bradshaw. Met expectations fully. 👌 Denzel is on fire here (probably his best performance?), so is Hawke and the movie is so tight from start to finish that I never felt like checking my phone in between.

  17. "How easy it is for bold liars to fan terror. As Hermann Göring, Adolf Hitler’s air chief, summarised: ''All you have to do is tell [the people] they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.''"

Since information is instantaneously “priced in”, it is hard for stockpickers to compensate for higher fees by consistently beating the market."
