PC Gamer: The Pokémon Company is turning to facial recognition scans to help combat scalpers. “Nintendo has announced the rollout of a facial recognition system and new entry and purchase rules for its Pokémon stores in Japan. It’s not exactly a last-ditch effort, but it’s yet another attempt at combating scalpers which have been plaguing the hobby ever since its inception.”

It’s obvious that Pokemon Trading Card Scalping has been a thing now as I watched videos on it. I just don’t understand why people will buy up printed pieces of printed cardboard just to sell them at a higher price.
Now, McDonalds Japan have a Happy Meal promotion that have a pack of 5 Pokemon Trading Cards. Of course, I never thought that the scalping trend will happen in Japan, with people buying up 30 meals and throw them away after taking the card packs. Even fights broke out as a result.
I think scalping needs to be outlawed, it’s just exploitative and of course ruining the hobby as well.

#scalping has been quite a profitable scam. It's exacerbated by modern tech. The tools they use are the same as used by us builders of modern web apps, and by forensic cyber researchers. Law and regulation already are in place but don't prevent scalping.
