Pro: größere Bildschirme, höhere Auflösung, ganzzahlige Skalierung von NDS-Inhalten, Scheide für Stylus eingebaut, besserer Sound, besseres Scharnier
Contra: größeres Gerät, keine ganzzahlige Skalierung der meisten anderen Inhalte, Stylus ist so ein unpraktisches Gummiding, drittel Arbeitsspeicher, kein eMMC, nur noch 1 Schiebepad
Sieht so aus, als würden die Pros und die Contras sich aufwiegen.

В последнее время мне захотелось вернуться к проекту игровой консоли. Правда, он забуксовал, но ничего страшного: это долгоиграющий проект, и буду его разбирать по чуть-чуть. А вернулся к нему всё потому, что захотелось программировать. Потом я стал размышлять, что необязательно делать свою консоль — можно достать готовую. И везде я слышал упоминания про ретро-консоли, а у меня такой не было! Выбрал для себя Anbernic RG35XX Pro и заказал. В этой статье будет небольшой обзор и впечатления от этой приставки. Но больше всего меня интересовал вопрос: допустим, я разрабатываю игры — могу ли я использовать ретро-консоль для моих нужд? Как легко запустить мою игру на ней? Может быть, игровые движки поддерживают опцию экспорта для таких консолей? И похожие вопросы — в основном из-за непонимания того, как это происходит. Всё будет рассмотрено на примере PortMaster и написания Hello World на C/C++ (SDL2, SDL3, raylib), но также поговорим про Unity, Godot и HTML5 (Phaser).

I'm going for a #trip today that will take half a day. That means it'll be the first lengthy chance at portable gaming on the road with my #NintendoSwitch and #Anbernic #RG35XX SP. I will also make some time to read on my #Kobo as well.
So, I either finish a #book, do a bunch of #DragonQuestXI or do a bunch of #FireEmblem Blazing Blade—or fall asleep the whole trip.

It's crazy how many PC #games you can add to your cheapo handhelds like #Anbernic's #RG35XX (family) thanks to #Portmaster - including #StardewValley, #Undertale, #Deltarune, #HalfLife, and even #Minetest.
It's making me wanna buy some of the older games found in this list that I would've not wanted to play on my PC otherwise.

I think the safest device for this purpose is the #Anbernic #RG35xx; it can play a ton of games, has wifi for achievements, and can be had for as little as $50. They are common and have a lot of support from OSes like #minUI #MuOS #ArkOS and #knulli. The people I want to gift them to wouldn't appreciate Gamecube/Dreamcast support much anyway.

I have a spreadsheet where I'm keeping track of various #retroGaming #handhelds and the #opensource firmwares that officially support them. I'm surprised which device is so far out in front of all the others.
The #TrimUiSmartPro; supported by #batocera #retronix #retropie #recalbox #lakka #arkos #knulli and #crossmixOS. It's not a powerful device, a little faster than the #Anbernic RGXX line, but at just under $100 it could be good for #Dreamcast

Turns out #Rocknix needs it's roms in a /roms folder while the stock #Anbernic keeps it at the root of the ext card. I seem to remember that from when I installed #GarlicOS on my #RG35xx.
I wish all these #opensource #emulation projects could get together and standardize a few things. Feels like a solvable problem.

We do be tweakin' tho.
I couldn't be more dissatisfied with the catalogue of #knulli #themes for the #rg35xxh. All of them try to cramp so much information into the screen, and they end up feeling bloated. To be blunt, they all suck.
After weeks of searching, I was able to find this theme called "es-theme-tiled" made by Claudio Filipe. It's surprisingly customizable. The menus are just image grids. The system view shows modern-looking system logos, and the game view shows the box arts. It felt great, but still not good enough for me, so I'm removing useless texts and images and tweaking it to my liking.
And it feels so good! Now I really feel like I can enjoy this UI!

Got myself an #Anbernic #RG35XX Linux based handheld from China. Mainly to play Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games from my childhood.
The build quality of the device did *really* surprise me. It's super hefty plastics, sturdy and has weight to it. Also the buttons are super comfortable and satisfying. It feels like I remember my real Gameboy from back in the day. Just with a (way) better display.
Definitely a pleasant surprise from a sub 50$ device from china.
I tested Gameboy, SNES, Gameboy-Advance, Playstation 1 and Dreamcast games on it and so far, it could run all games well. Under the hood, it's a Linux based system with Retroarch emulators.
Now I can't get the melody of Tetris out of my head again 🤣

Uuuuund die Sammlung wächst weiter … Hier im Bild noch die Original Firmware zu sehen, ich habe aber mittlerweile #Knulli drauf gemacht (in Ermangelung von #OnionOS für diese Plattform). Auf meinem – systemgleichen – RG35xx+ habe ich auch Knulli drauf. Gefällt ganz gut, ist aktuell mein Favorit. Vor allem auch wegen #EmulationStation als Frontend. 👍 #anbernic #rg35xxh #retrogaming

I do enjoy using the Anbernic RG35XX PLUS, but certainly the early batches had a flaw...
The headphones can cut out with audio coming and going, and after opening up I could easily see the problem.
The headphones port unit is just sitting on the pads and not soldered on properly. You can even lift the unit!
Once I soldered the joints it's been absolutely fine, but looking online I'm not the only person who had this issue. Saved me sending it back for repair.

After sending my Anbernic RG351P to the grave (don't ask me why 🥲), I bought the Anbernic RG35XX-H as a portable retro gaming console.
@zafer ' s new toy, the RG35XX Pro model (last photo), has the same chipset. Its price was quite reasonable compared to the RG351p at the time (Anbernic is currently $53 + taxes, whereas when I bought the RG351p, it was around $110 excl. taxes).

@Nawer_Rapter have you considered a Linux or Android handheld? The ones made by #Anbernic #Miyoo #Powkiddy and #RetroidPocket are pretty easy to use and come with a ton of games, including GBA. I have an #RG35XX with #GarlicOS that works great!

I tried again to upload roms to my #anbernic #rg35xx using #winscp because I don't have an sd card reader. I got access but I can't upload anything and I get this message: "The file is on read-only media, or the media is write protected.
Error code: 12
Error message from server (en): Read-only file system"
I still have the stock OS which is fine for me and, worst still, the stock sd cards. I remember when I inserted the cards in my old laptop it was error after error. #retrogaming -

Last night I installed a bunch of #famicomDiskSystem games on my #anbernic #rg35xx. And my mind is blown! : 🤯
The games are incredible, and only a few made it to the states like #Zelda, #Metroid and #DokiDokiPanic ( in the form of Mario 2).
I am particularly impressed with #Otocky which is a rhythm-based #shmup and "bio miracle bokutte upa!!" Which feels like a Kirby predecessor.
