Hands-on with the Anbernic RG 55G1; Anbernic's Snapdragon Gamble
> Anbernic's first Snapdragon-powered handheld is beautifully designed, comfortable to use and capable, but the G1 Gen 2's weak GPU makes a starting-from $150 price harder to justify.

Started Playing Mega Man Battle Network 4: Red Sun (GameBoy Advance Emulation) on my Anbernic RG35XX-H. Oh I love this series, and many of the GBA generation games!

Stardew Valley on the Anbernic RG35XX-H with Portmaster. Runs slow but is absolutely playable :-)

I made a theme for #MuOS for my #Anbernic #RG35XX SP based on #TokyoNight colors and #Arcticons icon pack!
-
I'm also playing some #FireEmblem on my #Anbernic #RG35XX SP.
Cool stuff!

I'm going for a #trip today that will take half a day. That means it'll be the first lengthy chance at portable gaming on the road with my #NintendoSwitch and #Anbernic #RG35XX SP. I will also make some time to read on my #Kobo as well.
So, I either finish a #book, do a bunch of #DragonQuestXI or do a bunch of #FireEmblem Blazing Blade—or fall asleep the whole trip.

It's crazy how many PC #games you can add to your cheapo handhelds like #Anbernic's #RG35XX (family) thanks to #Portmaster - including #StardewValley, #Undertale, #Deltarune, #HalfLife, and even #Minetest.
It's making me wanna buy some of the older games found in this list that I would've not wanted to play on my PC otherwise.

Lilbits: Handhelds, single-board PCs, and Casio makes a wristwatch… for your finger
Casio has been making digital wristwatches for half a century. But one of the company’s newest models is way too small to wear on your wrist – it’s basically a ring that looks (and functions) like a digital watch, complete with a display, stopwatch, and alarm functionality.
The Casio CRW-001-1JG will be available in Japan next month for about $130. Perhaps one of the most surprising things? It’s a waterproof design with a user-replaceable battery that should only need to be swapped out once every two years or so. There’s no word on whether you’ll be able to buy one outside of Japan anytime soon.
Casio’s first smart ring has innovative features like a stopwatch and flashing alarm [The Verge]
Casio’s CRW-001-1JR is a ring designed to look like a classic Casio wristwatch, with an illuminated LCD display that shows time and includes alarm and stopwatch functions.
Anbernic Win701 handheld gaming PC on the way [Baidu]
The Anbernic Win701 is a handheld gaming PC that was originally expected to ship in 2023 with a Ryzen 7 7840U processor. Now it looks like it could be coming soon with Ryzen 7 8840U instead.
The MSI Claw 8 AI+ handheld gaming PC will be one of the first with an Intel Lunar Lake processor. According to the description on a CES 2025 award page, it will also have one of the biggest batteries available, at 82 Wh.
Another day, another credit card-sized (or Raspberry Pi-sized) single-board computer. This one features an octa-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor, an NPU with up to2 TOPS of AI performance, up to 4GB of RAM, and support for up to three storage devices thans to an eMMC socket, microSD card reader, and M.2 2280 connector.
Sony’s new PlayStation Portal update lets you stream PS5 games from the cloud [The Verge]
The PlayStation Portal was originally a gaming handheld that could only do one thing: stream games over WiFi from a PS5 console connected to your network. But now Sony is rolling out an update that lets PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers beta test cloud streaming. That means you’ll be able to stream games over the internet even if your PS5 is turned off or you don’t have a PS5.
It seems like enough features are missing for now that the services is unlikely to appeal to folks who don’t already have a PlayStation console, but it’s conceivable that the future of console wars could be less reliant on physical consoles… after all, Microsoft has been trying to convince us that just about anything can be an Xbox if it can stream Xbox games.

I think the safest device for this purpose is the #Anbernic #RG35xx; it can play a ton of games, has wifi for achievements, and can be had for as little as $50. They are common and have a lot of support from OSes like #minUI #MuOS #ArkOS and #knulli. The people I want to gift them to wouldn't appreciate Gamecube/Dreamcast support much anyway.
-
I have a spreadsheet where I'm keeping track of various #retroGaming #handhelds and the #opensource firmwares that officially support them. I'm surprised which device is so far out in front of all the others.
The #TrimUiSmartPro; supported by #batocera #retronix #retropie #recalbox #lakka #arkos #knulli and #crossmixOS. It's not a powerful device, a little faster than the #Anbernic RGXX line, but at just under $100 it could be good for #Dreamcast

Turns out #Rocknix needs it's roms in a /roms folder while the stock #Anbernic keeps it at the root of the ext card. I seem to remember that from when I installed #GarlicOS on my #RG35xx.
I wish all these #opensource #emulation projects could get together and standardize a few things. Feels like a solvable problem.

Got myself an #Anbernic #RG35XX Linux based handheld from China. Mainly to play Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games from my childhood.
The build quality of the device did *really* surprise me. It's super hefty plastics, sturdy and has weight to it. Also the buttons are super comfortable and satisfying. It feels like I remember my real Gameboy from back in the day. Just with a (way) better display.
Definitely a pleasant surprise from a sub 50$ device from china.
I tested Gameboy, SNES, Gameboy-Advance, Playstation 1 and Dreamcast games on it and so far, it could run all games well. Under the hood, it's a Linux based system with Retroarch emulators.
Now I can't get the melody of Tetris out of my head again 🤣

For people who use Anbernic RG35XX (H, Pro (or even SP), newer chip variant).
Which OS are you using?
I'm in between modified Stock and MuOS, but wanted to hear your input.

I do enjoy using the Anbernic RG35XX PLUS, but certainly the early batches had a flaw...
The headphones can cut out with audio coming and going, and after opening up I could easily see the problem.
The headphones port unit is just sitting on the pads and not soldered on properly. You can even lift the unit!
Once I soldered the joints it's been absolutely fine, but looking online I'm not the only person who had this issue. Saved me sending it back for repair.

After sending my Anbernic RG351P to the grave (don't ask me why 🥲), I bought the Anbernic RG35XX-H as a portable retro gaming console.
@zafer ' s new toy, the RG35XX Pro model (last photo), has the same chipset. Its price was quite reasonable compared to the RG351p at the time (Anbernic is currently $53 + taxes, whereas when I bought the RG351p, it was around $110 excl. taxes).

Anbernic RG35XXSP is a gaming handheld with a Game Boy Advance SP inspired design
The new Anbernic RG35XXSP is a handheld game console with an Allwinner H700 processor, a Linux-based operating system, 1GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and 64GB of storage as well as two microSD card readers.
In other words, it’s a cheap device that should have enough horsepower for emulation of game consoles up through the PlayStation 1, but not much […]https://liliputing.com/?p=168625

@Nawer_Rapter have you considered a Linux or Android handheld? The ones made by #Anbernic #Miyoo #Powkiddy and #RetroidPocket are pretty easy to use and come with a ton of games, including GBA. I have an #RG35XX with #GarlicOS that works great!

I tried again to upload roms to my #anbernic #rg35xx using #winscp because I don't have an sd card reader. I got access but I can't upload anything and I get this message: "The file is on read-only media, or the media is write protected.
Error code: 12
Error message from server (en): Read-only file system"
I still have the stock OS which is fine for me and, worst still, the stock sd cards. I remember when I inserted the cards in my old laptop it was error after error. #retrogaming -
PSA: The Anbernic RG35XX Plus and H are on sale on Shopee for ~PhP 2,800. If you get a 128GB microSD card for PhP 400 (e.g. Lexar), you can get both for just PhP 2,200 using vouchers.
