  6. Okay. Subtle bug.

A Smart Object (SO) is a structured method to claim an item in the game, so your NPCs can share them more sanely than a free-for-all. The example given is an NPC wanting to go to a car door, open it, and sit down. I'm sure, someday, we'll have self-driving cars with robot drivers, which makes no sense, but I digress.

The SO Subsystem contains a magic bag of routines meticulously crafted to drive programmers insane.

I had 3 actors containing meshes with SO components. When I used the SO Subsystem's call to get the location of the SO's slot, it usually, but not always, gave me the location of a slot in a different SO. It took me a while to discover this euphoric joy.

After much hair loss, I used the actor containing the SO to give me the location of the SO component, which was correct. I'll need to adjust for the slot, but the selection is now correct. The NPC no longer randomly wanders to the wrong SO. I'm beyond grateful that I wasn't losing my mind over this. I've plenty of other reasons, thank you.

Bizarre and maddening behavior. The code has now more print statements than code to help me nail down where the heck it was happening. I'm using 5.6.1, so perhaps this was repaired in 5.7.?.

What do we do when we fix the maddening bug? WE BACKUP OUR CODE! Yes. Yes, we do.

  10. Medical Totalitarianism

…According to official data, there are 1.82 million practicing physicians in the EU, about four per thousand inhabitants. Including retired doctors, there are at least two million doctors, for 450 million people. In addition, there are 456,000 pharmacists working in pharmacies, 365,000 dentists, and 3.6 million nurses. Overall, there are at least seven million medical personnel, to which number should also be added thousands working in the various health ministries, in hospital administration staffs, in health insurance companies, as ambulance personnel, in the pharmaceutical industry, so that the total number of people employed in the “health industry” may be between eight million and ten million people. Add to that the number of dependents and family members, and one could say that some twenty million EU citizens depend wholly or partly on money earned in the health business. According to official figures, health care spending in the EU in 2022 was ten percent of GNP, en enormous figure, while the EU pharmaceuticals market was estimated at over 500 billion Euro in 2024.

Given those numbers, it is not very surprising that governments and business would want to make sure that physicians take the kind of decisions (i.e. make diagnoses and write prescriptions according to strict guidelines) that sustain the system and make it profitable. In a sense, the almost two million physicians are the front troops of the system. As long as they prescribe the pills and vaccinations that the pharmaceutical industry produces, the system will thrive. One could also say those almost two million doctors are drug pushers just as much as street dealers in marijuana, cocaine and fentanyl. This latter business in Europe is estimated at 30 billion Euro (2019), but this is all tax free.

In line with centralized medicine, medical students across the EU are being trained to think alike and behave like loyal members of the state-directed medical establishment. In other words, the EU medical establishment (already part of a global network controlled and managed by the WHO), functions like the Roman Catholic Church or a traditional old-style Communist Party. Medical “consensus” (imposed top-down) is for physicians what dogma is for Roman Catholic clergy and the party line for Communists. All physicians are required to adhere to medical consensus and those who don’t are made to pay for it. It means that in practice the Hippocratic oath is no more than a cute folkloric custom without content or true meaning.

USA is very similar. Furthermore, it does appear that the totalitarian medical system has been and still is a spearhead of universal totalitarianism. The same kinds of totalitarian control are present in news media, social media algorithms, captured agencies throughout government, government itself. The human need to socialize and conform is being used against us in every example you can think of: A general rule is conjured, followed by regulations, typically lower down on the ladders of power. Then these regulations metastasize and multiply into other organizations. Then they climb and descend the ladders of power. Like all fractal processes, there are currents of control going both ways, all ways, bottom to top, top to bottom. Before long, you have elementary school teachers deciding your child’s gender in a school system that has previously ruled it is in the best interests of your child that you will not be told what is happening. Totalitarianism is maddening in its details, a telling fact that always identifies it. ABN

Some variants on a few of the Mandolin variants! o.o

    - Clarinet: She usually takes the role and age of a little sister/daughter, but sometimes she becomes a big sister/mom!!
    - ManDee: The slime girl variant of Mandy learned new tricks, like shaping her lower half into the form of legs or shifting her colors to an ample variety of tones.
    - Mazurca Cantata: All the magic channeled by the rest of Mandies made her permanently evolve from a boring magic-less earth pony to a freaking alicorn princess!!
    - Myandy: The catgirl's fashion evolved beyond just wearing furry bikinis. Is having more clothes a variant? You have to draw her differently, so I think it is!

    Things about this record:

    - “Behave Yourself” was originally the A side, and it was on Volt. DJs preferred “Green Onions” so they rereleased it on Stax just a couple months later with the A/B labeling reversed
    - Lewie Steinberg on bass. Duck Dunn didn’t join the group until 1965

America feels like a country on the brink of an authoritarian takeover

    By Francine Prose

This is the news we should be paying attention to. At least for the moment, everything else is a distraction — Sun 25 Jan 2026 22.00 EST

When we talk about our inability to pay attention, to concentrate, we often mean and blame our phones. It’s easy, it’s meant to be easy. One flick of our index finger transports us from disaster to disaster, from crisis to crisis, from maddening lie to maddening lie. Each new unauthorized attack and threatened invasion grabs the headlines, until something else takes its place, and meanwhile the government’s attempts to terrorize and silence the people of our country continue.

So let me break it down. There is one story: our country is on the brink of an authoritarian takeover. In Minneapolis an innocent poet and an ER nurse at a VA hospital were both killed in cold blood by federal agents. It is happening now. Toddlers are being sent to detention centers; videos of their gyms for kids recall the youth choruses that the Nazis so proudly showed off at the Terezín concentration camp. Intimidation and violence are being weaponized against the citizens of Minneapolis, some of whom are afraid to leave their houses for fear of being beaten, arrested and shackled, regardless of whether they are US citizens or asylum seekers or people from another country peacefully living and working here for decades.

That is the news we should be paying attention to. At least for the moment, everything else is a distraction. I’m glad to have been informed about the heavy snow outside my window today and the local weather-travel advisory, but frankly, it’s snowed here before – so why is it leading the news?

Donald Trump’s inability to tell Greenland from Iceland during his speech at Davos is embarrassing, awful, sort of funny – but it’s hardly the first time he’s made a mortifying mistake. I too want the Epstein files released, I want to know who is guilty, I want justice and respect for the survivors. But unless those revelations bring down the perpetrators, it’s not – for the moment – the story.

The story is what’s happening in Minneapolis. And even that requires focus. Already the killing of Alex Pretti has partly diverted our attention from the killing of Renee Good.

The story – masked agents, arrests, violence, kidnappings, deportations without due process – is happening all over the country, but in smaller increments, without as much pushback, and so far without the death of two innocent, middle-class, white bystanders. The story is about how decent and unselfish Renee Good and Alex Pretti were and about the falsehoods being told about them.

The story is not letting ourselves be distracted from the real and present threat to our democracy. That threat is the story which our print, electronic and social media should be bannering at the top of every feed and every front page, every day. To consistently run that below the weather report is, quite frankly, to betray the struggles of the people of Minneapolis.

The story is what we do now to support our fellow Americans in the Midwest and to keep the violence and repression from spreading even further into our own streets and backyards. The story is avoiding the future that Stephen Miller and his minions are planning for us.

The story is how we do it: not long after the 2017 inauguration of Donald Trump, I wrote, in these pages, about our need to stage a national strike. I know now that I underestimated the difficulties – the amount of organization required, the need to strategize, the necessity to support and provide for people who will lose their livelihoods if they walk off the job. But many people are already scared to go to work or send their kids to school.

  16. We went to #Haymarket today and came back with some avocados. The seeds can be used to make a nutty & floral pink tea. It's close to chrysanthemum, but I like this a lot more.

After boiling, the seed itself becomes soft, and it tastes like a bitter walnut, almost astringent, with more floral notes. The Internet tells me it's probably safe to eat and is full of antioxidants. But, allergies are a thing, and this is not medical advice.
