  6. @felwert @rasmus91 @dkz2r @thecarpentries This is understanable and I’d say it always depends on what you want to achieve. For a lightweight "just writing some text" I prefer always(!) #Emacs with #org-mode . But in my PhD thesis (doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.2548872) I did things I was only capable of doing using #TeXLaTeX - it is always a trade of.

I dont know any other tool that would be able to create such data-driven visualizations:

  15. However, the #SnakeMake novice bioinformatics tutorial from #TheCarpentries carpentries-incubator.github.i says:

    "Using config settings with params

Strictly speaking, you don’t have to use config in conjunction with params like this, but it’s normally a good idea to do so."

Why is this a good idea? At first take it seems needlessly verbose to me 🤷

  17. Wow, the removal of @thecarpentries windows-maintainers team really takes me back.

When #SoftwareCarpentry started teaching workshops in ~2012 installation for Windows users was a nightmare. We would often spend the first 1+ hours of a workshop desperately scrambling to fix bash/Python install issues on Windows.

So, a tiny group of us starting trying to make that experience better. 🧵

  22. #Nonprofit Refuses $1.5M #Science #Grant Due To New Federal #DEI Rules
#TheCarpentries, a nonprofit that has trained over 100,000 researchers in coding and data skills, turned down a $1.5 million #NSF grant after being asked to strip diversity-related content from its programming. For an organization with just three months of cash on hand, it was a decision that threatens the organization’s very existence.
