  11. @HeidiSeibold I also write tests for my software. They are not primarily for usability but mostly for assuring quality and correctness, but I also think they can serve to demonstrate how the software works or should be expected to work.
In , one testing framework, , is convenient for incorporating tests as examples into the documentation. This way they can both serve as usage examples in the before-mentioned docstrings and as automated tests.

  12. @HeidiSeibold I try to document my software well. Keep documentation and code together. I believe this makes it less likely to get out of sync.
In #Python , #docstrings are great for usage documentation. They are embedded in the code and at the same time facilitate automatic generation of nicely formatted, coherent documentation.
I also try to improve code readability by opting for more self-explanatory code structures and naming and comment sparingly where necessary.

  20. a second reflection is on #OpenScienceChallenge

While many people have participated (see fosstodon.org/@HeidiSeibold/10), when I search for the hashtag on two servers, I only see my own posts and an occasional post by @toothFAIRy, like this one: scholar.social/@toothFAIRy/109

But that's it! Is the #hashtag thing on #Mastodon not working? Is it just this hashtag that is not (it seems to work fine for #wikidata

But it makes it hard to see responses by others :(
