The end of the year and the beginning of the new year are good times to reflect.
Good times for the #OpenScienceChallenge

@HeidiSeibold @digiresacademy
See my Twitter thread on using #preprints to teach #GradStudents and #ECRs how to do #PeerReview.
https://twitter.com/petersuber/status/1476571769897107457I agree that this could give them useful experience and boost the number of referees at the same time.

@HeidiSeibold I also write tests for my software. They are not primarily for usability but mostly for assuring quality and correctness, but I also think they can serve to demonstrate how the software works or should be expected to work.
In #Python , one testing framework, #doctest , is convenient for incorporating tests as examples into the documentation. This way they can both serve as usage examples in the before-mentioned docstrings and as automated tests. -
@HeidiSeibold I try to document my software well. Keep documentation and code together. I believe this makes it less likely to get out of sync.
In #Python , #docstrings are great for usage documentation. They are embedded in the code and at the same time facilitate automatic generation of nicely formatted, coherent documentation.
I also try to improve code readability by opting for more self-explanatory code structures and naming and comment sparingly where necessary. -

I'm not so much a people photo poster, but here is a nice impression from the dunes at Schoorl, #NESColLab .

Thank you @HeidiSeibold for taking the @digiresacademy train-the-trainer cohort to the gorgeous #EnglischerGarten today! ❤️🌳🌊
#Munchen / #Munich -
As part of the #DigitalResearchAcademy train-the-trainer event organised by @HeidiSeibold I worked together with @lnnrtwttkhn on a presentation titled:
"reproducible and #FAIR teaching materials "
slides: lennartwittkuhn.com/dra-fair-teaching/
It was a great experience to set this up from scratch with Lennart, who really carried this through 👏
Looking forward to see where the #DRA will go!

a second reflection is on #OpenScienceChallenge
While many people have participated (see https://fosstodon.org/@HeidiSeibold/109699716965675268), when I search for the hashtag on two servers, I only see my own posts and an occasional post by @toothFAIRy, like this one: https://scholar.social/@toothFAIRy/109791144829355394
But that's it! Is the #hashtag thing on #Mastodon not working? Is it just this hashtag that is not (it seems to work fine for #wikidata
But it makes it hard to see responses by others :(
