  1. @bodling Good points. Ideally, I don’t want to ever have to move anywhere. I just want a range of different interfaces to choose from.

#Org still feels like a foreign language I have no desire to learn, even though it has some fairly compelling advantages.

  3. There’s no denying it, try as I might to avoid the conclusion: Org mode makes more sense and fits better with my own self-proclaimed plain text philosophy than trying to force Obsidian into doing productivity gymnastics.

    So what’s holding me back?

Both Obsidian and Org have the potential to be pretty deep rabbit holes. I’ve successfully resisted the pull toward complexity of the former thus far.

Exploring why I’m still reluctant to approach the latter.

  5. @Ray_On_Emacs Not sure why I've not searched for this before but this looks like a possible avenue...

It has a link to Memacs which is probably overkill for me

  6. There’s a phrase in task management (I’m a Getting Things Done with org-mode kind of a person) called “Eat the frog” which is to do the most unpleasant task first thing in the day so it’s out of the way and you don’t procrastinate. Today I have a large frog and ho boy I am NOT keen. #GTD #org-mode

  8. Think you can't use an exclamation mark in an Org priority cookie? I thought so, too, until I wrote a couple of functions. Now [#!] indicates One Hundred Times the Highest Priority!

  9. You don't have to settle for the default Org mode priorities of A, B, C. You can go from A all the way to Z, or you can have numeric priorities.

  11. #Emacs #org #orgmode #doc

I have a need to convert a Google doc to org mode.

My language teachers frequently keep ongoing Google docs of my lessons. I'd like to convert them to org while also extracting the questions and exercises into org drill / org Anki formatted entries.

Does anyone know of something like this? I think using pandoc to get it into org, then using some org manipulation code might be reasonable.

I've gone the other direction, using ox-publish, so that might also be something. Publish the resulting org file to a flash card org file...

  15. The Open Rights Group (ORG) have a petition about the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) at action.openrightsgroup.org/res.

The ICO are responsible for ensuring the privacy laws and regulations are properly enforced. Given the state of The Internet and the proliferation of non-compliant tracking cookies that are forced on our browsers every day, it would appear the ORG are right to request some action is taken in this area.

  23. @andyc I've looked at some of these (well, everything but this new "Grove" thing), and they are particular opinionated ways of note taking that don't suit me.

I suspect that a lot of people who choose these packages haven't actually delved into how ridiculously powerful straight #Orgmode is. Orgmode is integrated into everything I do on GNU Emacs in a way that these packages can't do.

Then again, I'm not your boss; if it suites you, do it, but I wouldn't overlook #Org mode so easily.

  25. Started to use org-social in #emacs

It is nerdy feel to use #plaintext and #emacs #orgmode to connect in a social media.

Have to find how to sync #orgsocial and #gotosocial

  28. I started migrating from Org Roam to Denote today. I just don't need the capabilities and the complexity of the former and I think my workflow will benefit from the simpler and more universal workflow of Denote.
