  1. @andyc I've looked at some of these (well, everything but this new "Grove" thing), and they are particular opinionated ways of note taking that don't suit me.

    I suspect that a lot of people who choose these packages haven't actually delved into how ridiculously powerful straight #Orgmode is. Orgmode is integrated into everything I do on GNU Emacs in a way that these packages can't do.

    Then again, I'm not your boss; if it suites you, do it, but I wouldn't overlook #Org mode so easily.

    It is nerdy feel to use #plaintext and #emacs #orgmode to connect in a social media.

  13. I started migrating from Org Roam to Denote today. I just don't need the capabilities and the complexity of the former and I think my workflow will benefit from the simpler and more universal workflow of Denote.

  17. @felwert @rasmus91 @dkz2r @thecarpentries This is understanable and I’d say it always depends on what you want to achieve. For a lightweight "just writing some text" I prefer always(!) #Emacs with #org-mode . But in my PhD thesis (doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.2548872) I did things I was only capable of doing using #TeXLaTeX - it is always a trade of.

    I dont know any other tool that would be able to create such data-driven visualizations:

  18. After having enough of their desktop app not working, I can now control my #elgato keylight through some #org restclient HTTP calls.

    Lights on via cURL wasn't my initial plan for the day, but I'm happy with it.

  19. I've been trying to use #org-mode and #emacs-jupyter as a replacement for Jupyter notebooks in a #Bioinformatics course I'm teaching. After having to manually force org-mode to update inline images a handful of times I did this in anger: github.com/pjones/org-inline-i

  20. New blog: Using Org mode table for calculating RAGBRAI training actual vs. planned mileage davemq.github.io/2026/02/24/ra

  21. Every day which i either use org-mode or watch videos/bloh posts about it, my brain explodes how much cool stuff is provided or waiting to be integrated.

    Sad that i suck at lisp languages. I mean in theory i get them, but my brain does not like it, so reading it is slow for me.

  22. We had our social in Manchester last night, catching up with supporters.

  23. I've been chaotically bookmarking things to watch for some time (reddit links, imdb links, movie names, directors, etc.) to an #emacs #org file primarily via Journelly.

    The thing is, it's not super practical to browse when I need it. Today, I finally did something about that. A little scripting and LLM help got me my first browsable catalog.

    Maybe I'll write this up and also share the film/tv series list. #film #movie #movies #tv #tvseries #show #shows #video #videos #plaintext

  24. Manchester calling! 📣

  25. I'm writing an package. It's complete enough for a first release, but I should really include an Info file. I'm far more familiar with writing Org documents than TeXinfo documents, so I think I'll be writing the Info as an Org document, then exporting it as TeXinfo or Info.

  26. Anyone have a fave multi-device #bookmark-sharing workflow?

    I like to keep 0 open tabs, and I use bookmarks extensively. For years, I've been using the #firefox sync service to keep my bookmarks synced between my phone, laptop, etc. I figure it might be a good idea to have an exit plan just in case.

    Once upon a time, I used #orgzly on android and #org-mode on proper computers, synced with dropbox. Any better options out there than #orgzlyrevived and ssh-sync to my server?

  27. Format-specific output can be passed through from input to output via “raw blocks” and “raw inlines”. E.g., inserting a pagebreak in docx would work via “raw_attributes” in Markdown:

    ```{=openxml}
    <w:p>
    <w:r><w:br w:type="page"/></w:r>
    </w:p>
    ```

    Or to insert HTML from org mode:

    @@html:<var>x</var>@@

  28. @debacle @ilyess
    Same for me. #Emacs #Nyxt browser or qute browser.

    Krita. Lilypond, audacity, #emacs #org. I use emacs for everything so that's about it unless you want to bring in next cloud, mpd, pie hole, Jekyll, ffmpeg and stuff like that.

    My only real applications are Emacs, a browser and some drawing or music and audio creation / composition stuff. Wine so I can play WoW.
    Lutris is awesome.

    Xmonad wm or Emacs xwm, zsh, fish, babashka, elisp, SBCL, Clojure, C.

    Within emacs, emms, elfeed, mastodon, mu4e, org, org-babel, pdf tools, lilypond, dired, language learning,
    Multi language writing tools, calendars, git, coding in any language, ...

  31. People of Emacs and Org Mode:
    Are there any packages to manage a project? I have projectile, but that's more for coding. I mean like a house move or fence build kinda project: something that has multiple todos and will take a protracted amount of time.

    Failing any specific package for that, what about a org template for said project?
