  2. Can anyone point me to a write-up, #guidelines, #BestPractices etc. for dealing with the infrastructural importance of #hashtags on #mastodon? How do we avoid another #convergence on the #Anglophone #hegemony and #ASCII in #multilingual and #multiscriptoral communities? This is particularly important if #mastodon is to become a viable forum for #critical, #global #DigitalHumanities / #HumanidadesDigitales / #HumanitésNumériques / #الانسانيات_الرقمية.

  3. #corpora I bet we all have some anxiety about them. How do you choose what texts to look at? How do you know when you have enough? The #DataSittersClub is back, asking those questions and more to corpus linguist Shelley Staples, while exploring pizza and the Newbery Award for youth literature. #DigitalHumanities datasittersclub.github.io/site

  4. Is there any better news to wake up to than the fact that Norway has digitized All The Books and it's no problem at all to get all their Baby-Sitters Club translations? 🤩 #DigitalHumanities #DataSittersClub #corpora

  5. Today is my last day lecturing in the #AI class so I made a tunic from imagined redacted government documents about alien invasions, along with my data pants and the fire shawl I've been knitting for the last month. #OpenAI drama, #EA / #EAcc, org models, human relationships, and all that jazz! #DHsewing

  6. We are so, so close to publishing the next #DataSittersClub book, I have to share the cover. @xandaschofield helps us get to the bottom of topic models in "DSC 20: Xanda Rescues the Topic Modeling Disaster"! #TopicModeling #DigitalHumanities

  7. Reading through the next #DataSittersClub draft on #topicmodeling with the delightful @xandaschofield , and I think you all are going to be in for a real Thanksgiving treat. This is the piece that I wish I'd read as a first encounter with topic models.

  8. @foundhistory @tillgrallert @ryancordell There's been since the official program ended, for sure. But I do wonder to what extent this is it for the field.

People are splitting apart, into , , cultural analytics, the TEI camp, the collections camp. What's the center of "DH" that will hold for a while longer? I think we do have some momentum around a shared core with ACH, but internationally (which is where I personally work), I'm much less certain.

  9. @foundhistory @tillgrallert @ryancordell There's been #THATCamp since the official program ended, for sure. But I do wonder to what extent this is it for the field.

  13. CW: Absurdly bad day

The day started with my office ceiling collapsing on my new loom, and ended with my #HathiTrust data capsule, presumably, being possessed by Satan, given it wouldn't do anything besides type the number 6, unbidden as I was trying to teach. #loom #DigitalHumanities #TextileMakerspace

  14. Still, we're no closer to the dream of Project Bamboo for some kind of infrastructure that can bring together disparate collections with scalable algorithms, in a way that everyone gets credit. The closest thing I can think of is #HathiTrust -- and that only works within its own texts and ecosystems. Good luck combining that with things your university has subscribed to. (Also, it's not easy to use!) #DHNB2023

  15. Loving the multi-transliteration tendencies of the Face/Interface speakers. Not only #Unicode, but #IPA of what the transliteration produces! #MultilingualDH #transliteration

  16. Each #weft yarn is one #Slack message. Purple is our boss, mottled turquoise is folks in my job, black is devs, light blue is data folks, chunky blue is the person who ran the consulting and workshops. Light green is the month divider. I learned a lot about how we communicate; it just took one weekend.

  17. I'm working on a Hobbes yarn for the Calvin & Hobbes #DataVisualization and can't escape the uneasy feeling that the orange #roving is something like the corpse of #Gritty. 😳

  18. Last day before winter shutdown and I found a beloved old t-shirt with one of my favorite pieces of #UChicago #graffiti from my first book (stolen twice from the UChicago #library). Cleaning the Makerspace today. It's winter break: rethink your life, go to Italy, be a cobbler. #DHsewing

  19. It's a day of #TextileMakerspace meetings and fiddling with #looms so I'm channeling the Able Sisters. I'm so excited to have fixed the problem with the rigid heddle loom. Let the #weaving commence! #DHsewing #ACNH

  20. Starting the #DH2023 #DHmakes favorite slide project with the dragon TaDiRAH riding on a Douglas Adams Babel Fish. Thanks, @luiseborek! #BabelFish #embroidery

  21. I'm very late to posting something for #DayOfDH2023 but I'll blame it on being 15 hours off of my home time zone. I spent the day offline, on a boat, with DH colleagues and my spinning machine and crochet. We talked about projects, conferences, organizations, and there was seafood and beverages aplenty. It was not at all what my regular life looks like doing #DigitalHumanities, but it's a memory I'll treasure.

  22. I remember loving that this site existed, pointing students to it, and suggesting things (like the #MultilingualDH addition!) On the infrastructure side, there were clear, simple instructions on how to get started while I was still struggling to wrap my head around how Jekyll worked & liquid syntax.

  23. Last week's assignment was to create a data set from your life, but Celine Heck took it a step further and embroidered it too! This is her caffeinated beverage intake for the week. Chinese was easier than Latin for embroidering the labels, a #MultilingualDH win on top of it all! #DHmakes

  24. I am absolutely losing it as I fill out the form to get this added to our library catalogue, and my closest options for topic from their controlled vocabulary are "American Literary Studies" and "British and Commonwealth Literary Studies". #MultilingualDH

  25. An excellent thread if you're ready to break out of the monolingual world of English. You can also learn some great tricks we know in area studies, like how to get something out of a talk that's about something in a language you don't speak. Come join us! #MultilingualDH
