Letterpress method: mask (aka frisket) = cutting a paper cover w/holes just where you want to let ink reach your print. I used this to make a larger printing block only print into 2 nonadjacent cells of my typecase print instead of letting the entire image block appear. #DHmakes

Phoebe Xu, one of my Textile Dataviz students, just happened to have with her a beautifully modded pair of headphones, wrapped like a bracelet with embroidery floss. May it bring you some of the joy of craft-making that it brought me. #DHmakes

It has just occurred to me that with "textiles", I have something else like "multilingual". It works well as a banner, but if anyone ever shows up asking about it, you quickly have to dissuade them of the idea that it's a single coherent thing. Weaving and knitting are different metaphors. #DHmakes

This year's Textile Dataviz midterms (pick 1 of 3 provided datasets -- almost everyone chooses faculty gender and/or ethnicity) had a bunch of new methods and interpretations and efforts to bring a gesture towards more complex identities into the visualizations. It really is a delight. #DHmakes

It's been maybe 18 months since I started on this embroidery version of a kid drawing, got annoyed at my stitch choice, and let it sit. Finally working on finishing it up so I can mail the jacket off for its next embroidery adventure phase. #DHmakes

Another (pizzapress) letterpress layer done. I still need to add the cheese/tomato/sausage textures, on the cells that correspond to the letters of "pizza pie". #DHmakes

Quick test says my chipboard lasercut letterpress-typecase-grid mask should work how I was hoping, for my letterpress case/pride flag colors project. (Wasn't sure if the chipboard would be too high for the brayer to still ink inside it.) #DHmakes

There's a community art project in the cactus garden in Las Cruces near where my girlfriend's parents live. Rudy the Rock Snake has expanded now with the @[email protected] quote "Infrastructure is something we owe to one another". #DHmakes

If you ever find yourself with days to spend in the ICU, bring that new craft you've not successfully made the time to figure out. The many hours of sitting and waiting are perfect for trying, failing, watching a video, untying knots, and trying again. Slowly working on tatting, myself. #DHmakes

For #DHmakes letterpress process-sharing, 1st three legible printings in vertical order showing changes in placement, typeface needed to fit paper size & deal w/being out of certain letters (e!) in certain typefaces (font/style/size). The "st" glyph in "must" is a flourish that also freed up sorts+

Test print 👍 of the Whitman poem. Using rule like web lines between the text worked; going to add some more. I remembered to put the missing letter back in, too. #DHmakes

I've learned not to fly with beads in a carry-on if I can help it, but today I discovered it takes 3 TSA agents including a manager to certify an inkle loom safe to fly. 😂 #DHmakes

Oh and how. With the whistle requests slowing down, I now find myself in possession of a loom-making machine that also makes drop spindles, shuttles, and other textile craft thingies. #DHmakes

Had a moment of panic that I'd bought the wrong crochet hook set, seeing a booklet about "Digital Crochet Hooks" on this day in particular, when I don't want more "digital" anything, frankly. But no. These are analog. They're fine. It's only an ad. #DHmakes

Maybe what I love most about YarnLab just being an open space is it feels like a living ecosystem. Every time I come by things have changed, there's new creations and remnants on the tables, and there's a different configuration of lively disarray. #DHmakes
