  1. @mtchl @[email protected] @perkinsy @proghist @snail @baibi I used work by @perkinsy, @wragge and @mtchl in my teaching for several years in the strength of connections and discussions from #thatcamp in year I started teaching.

  2. I’m already in my hotel room, but this is what I wore to travel to #dh2024 #THATcamp

  3. If you see a bearded guy wearing an old-school #THATcamp t-shirt in DCA this evening, that's me!

  4. #THATCamp (The Humanities and Technology Camp) is an event where students, staff, and faculty from any discipline and all skill levels learn and build together in sessions proposed, led, and voted on by the community. The agenda is set by attendees on the day of the event based on what people want to learn and/or share. Jan. 12th, we are holding THATCamp as a virtual event from 9:30AM – 3:00PM. Register to attend by Wed., Jan. 10th, 2024! digitalhumanities.msu.edu/that

  5. I used to teach a #regex workshop at almost every #thatcamp I attended, and I kind of miss it. It was short (45m), fun, and people seemed to get a lot out of it. Would there be any interest if I ran one online again?

  6. @foundhistory @tillgrallert @ryancordell There's been since the official program ended, for sure. But I do wonder to what extent this is it for the field.

People are splitting apart, into , , cultural analytics, the TEI camp, the collections camp. What's the center of "DH" that will hold for a while longer? I think we do have some momentum around a shared core with ACH, but internationally (which is where I personally work), I'm much less certain.

  11. @tillgrallert @quinnanya @ryancordell Somebody younger and cooler than me should bring back #THATCamp or some Gen-Z version of it.

  12. Loving that @dhatmsu is actually having a virtual #THATCamp today to match my vintage #mlatshirts. Off to (adjacent to) #MLA23 with the Academic Tarot Deck! Lmk if you want to meet up. #DigitalHumanities

  13. @evan You might enjoy me waxing nostalgic about #THATCamp in the last (!) post on my blog (note to self: I need to get back to writing long form and posting over there):

  14. @foundhistory My own twitter experience started by following #THATCamp attendees and grew (but always among #digitalhumanities people) over time. I found my feed degraded over time primarily due to retweets from people I followed--even if I agreed with someone's opinion of DJT, it wasn't part of the conversation I wanted to follow. Cross-posts from Twitter to Mastodon have the same effect.

So I'm with you 100%, but I'm hoping that some of the affordances of the platform will offer me some technical fixes. I've imported lots of people to follow, but set "show boosts"="false" for all of them. Now that he's mentioned it replying to you, I plan to follow @yerald 's system of filtering RT.

I'm also trying to make a practice of muting 2-3 accounts per day (while retaining notifications from those accounts). Fingers crossed!

  15. I never managed to post an #introduction, so here goes.

I’m Tom Scheinfeldt. I’m a faculty member at the University of Connecticut, where I teach history of technology, digital culture, design thinking, and digital humanities. I also direct an interdisciplinary research incubator called Greenhouse Studios. I’ve worked on lots of things through the years both at @uconn and at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University, including #Sourcery, #THATCamp, and #Omeka.

I blog at foundhistory.org. I like #swimming and #skiing and I have a wife and two sons. We live in West Hartford.

    Loving Mastodon so far!

(BTW: If you followed me in the last week or so, you may want to do so again. A bunch of followers were erased due to some technical issues on my server.)

  16. Looks like #ThatCamp is happening near me in April. I should go and talk about Mastodon and Federation. It's been too long since I last interacted with that crowd.
