  1. @GreenSkyOverMe I want to use #italki for German and Spanish but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I’ve gotten a number of graded readers in both languages and I watch a number of YouTube videos for those languages and how to learn languages. I also watch Netflix shows in my target languages with the same language subtitles on. I’m focusing mostly on comprehension. I think #Duolingo is great for getting started in a language though I don’t think it can get anyone to fluency.

  2. I am not a #polyglot, not even close, but I do like learning languages. I speak none fluently, but I could probably function as a tourist who knows enough to get by in some of those countries that speak them. Anyway, I had no problem with remembering the #CyrillicAlphabet, which I think now is because it has so much in common with the #RomanAlphabet. I had no frame of reference with the #hirigana or #katakana #syllabary and there was no #romaji in the #japanese #Duolingo test.

  7. Every language I’ve studied on #Duolingo except #Ukrainian I’ve studied before. I took #Spanish (1yr) and #German (2yrs) in high school; #Russian (3yrs, minor) and #Japanese (1 semester) in college; and (Scottish) #Gaelic self-study group and Gaelic tutor. All of them I took a Duolingo placement test to see how much I remembered. I just started Japanese and tried the placement test but stopped because I didn’t remember the #hirigana or very many words I’d learned, so I started as a beginner.

  8. Been a while since I’ve watched an episode of Guy’s Grocery Games. We don’t have cable but we do have the #FoodNetwork app on our #Roku Streambar. Currently season 23 is free. I dialed up the episode titled “April Fools Day”. It was not what I expected. #GuyFieri loves pulling tricks and stunts on contestants. It’s a tribute to Carl Ruiz, a chef, a judge, and a sometimes contestant on #TripleG, who died unexpectedly at the age of 44 of heart disease.

  13. My latest guilty pleasure is Hot in Cleveland. I grew up on 70’s and 80’s sitcoms. So seeing those actresses again is great plus all the guest stars from other well known shows of the previous decades.

  15. I can’t believe no one has used the hashtag #KingyMcKingFace to refer to Charles III here. Only saw one other use on Twitter. I called him Kingy McKingFace when he became king and his brother Prince Andrew, Rapey McRapeFace.

I think the #UK should abolish the monarchy or reduce its status and importance to the level other European countries that still have royals too. They can still bring lots of tourist dollars. #CharlesIII #Coronation

  16. Well #KingyMcKingFace is about to be crowned. They couldn’t find a single Brit to perform for his coronation, so they hired some Yanks. #CharlesIII #UK #Coronation
