Was praised by my #Japanese teacher for being able to speak a lot quicker than usual🥹Learning a language is such a long and hard endeavor, so it's nice to see small improvements even if you are far from fluent 🥹Finally finding speaking partners (on #helloTalk) and taking some speaking lessons (on #italki) did help a lot. Highly recommend using these or similar services to just find someone to talk to in your target language

Discovered and started to use #WaniKani this week. Seems like a fresh approach compared with #Anki, which I've used for some periods in the past to learn kanji.

From Mastodon I just learned about #LearnNatively which seems will come in handy.

I'm planning a trip to #Japan later this year and I'd like to learn as much as possible by then.

I feel I should join some classes, but unsure which. Any recommendations? I've heard of #italki.

Any interesting accounts to follow on Mastodon as well? Maybe some with some simple posts in Japanese?

PS: Is #Duolingo worth it? Always seems too slow/easy.

@phaysis At a certain point, it seems necessary to seek out live conversations. So tomorrow I am literally flying to Mexico for two-week immersion program. When I get back, I will still keep doing my daily #Duolingo, but I imagine I will sign up for an online conversation course too. I hear good things about #iTalki.

@GreenSkyOverMe I want to use #italki for German and Spanish but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I’ve gotten a number of graded readers in both languages and I watch a number of YouTube videos for those languages and how to learn languages. I also watch Netflix shows in my target languages with the same language subtitles on. I’m focusing mostly on comprehension. I think #Duolingo is great for getting started in a language though I don’t think it can get anyone to fluency.

I have a Hebrew lesson on #italki coming up in less than two weeks. I had to schedule it because the package was about to expire. 😅 I did conversational lessons for a year or so and they were super helpful, but now it has been six months and I am embarrassed to see my teacher again because I have regressed so much. 😳 #Hebrew #LanguageLearning

There is some #neuroscience research which suggests that we learn better in shorter chucks of time, especially for things like #LanguageLearning. So I worked out with my #iTalki #Hindi instructor to have two 30 min classes a week instead of one 60 min class, and I am liking it so much better. Now I wonder how I ever survived doing 3 hrs of Chinese class and 6 hours of homework a day for an entire year? Of course, that was 25 years ago, but I think I was pretty miserable then...

Has anyone reading this used #italki to help with learning a language? Would you recommend it?
