Duolingo часто критикуют за то, что после сотен дней занятий пользователь умеет поддерживать серию, но не разговор. Эта критика не совсем справедлива. Duolingo действительно помогает начать заниматься регулярно, запоминать слова и осваивать базовые конструкции. Проблема возникает, когда приложение воспринимают как полноценную замену разговорной практике. Реальный язык устроен сложнее упражнения с несколькими вариантами ответа. В разговоре никто не подскажет нужное слово. Собеседник может говорить с акцентом, использовать незнакомое выражение, перебить, пошутить или неожиданно изменить тему. Нужно не узнать правильный ответ, а самостоятельно и быстро сформулировать мысль. Поэтому вопрос стоит не в том, умер ли Duolingo. Скорее, умерла идея, что одно приложение и один формат занятий способны полностью научить языку.

Ich werde Super #Duolingo auslaufen lassen. Wie so oft ist man am Anfang voller Motivation und Begeisterung, aber mit der Zeit lässt das nach. Trotzdem werde ich auf jeden Fall weitermachen.

Today my old version of the #Duolingo app finally lost support, and I had to update to the new, infinitely worse (in terms of both antifeatures and lag) version. I honestly might just drop the app entirely, although I expect to tough out the next few months until I reach a 1000 streak before dropping. Maybe the website is more tolerable? Doesn't seem to work on my phone though.
In the meantime, does anyone know of a good service I can switch to? Needs to support #Spanish, and preferably also Hebrew and/or German. Can't just be vocabulary: that's what Anki is for. Can be paid but not subscription, and needs to work on Android and if possible also Linux. Ideally should either work entirely offline or be non-profit/open source, so I don't risk needing to do this all again three years from now. What happened with #LibreLingo anyway?
