Zum lachenden Shruuf: Warmachine auf neuen Wegen
Die Adepticon ist vorbei (ich war freilich nicht da) und insgesamt scheint mir, dass sich Warmachine MK IV für Steamforged Games gut entwickelt. Scheinbar gab es dort viel Interesse für Warmachine. Aber auch darüber hinaus gibt es mehr „Battle Reports“ – unter anderem auf Youtube, die Veröffentlichungstermine von Neuem liegen enger beieinander und mein Eindruck ist zudem, dass mehr und mehr Spieler mit dem Spiel anfangen – oder dorthin zurückkehren.
Daneben gibt es aber auch Aspekte, die auf der Adepticon bekannt wurden, die ich fast noch spannender finde:
- Für die sog. „Limited Factions“, also Covergence, Crudible, Grymkin und Infernals sollen offenbar die MK III-Figuren nochmal aufgelegt werden.
- Es wurde ein „Abonnement-Modell“, dass auch mit einer digitalen Miniaturen-Komponente verknüpft sein kann, eingeführt.
Der erste Punkt freut natürlich alle MK III-, oder Legacy-Spieler. Mit Blick darauf, dass einige der Figuren nur für kurze Zeit oder schon seit längerem gar nicht mehr (und damit ist gemeint, auch schon vor dem Einstellen MK IIIs nicht mehr), verfügbar waren, ist dies ein netter Service.
Das Abonnement-Modell gab es bezüglich der App schon insoweit, als dass man für bislang 5,99 Euro beliebig viele Armeelisten in der App speichern konnte. Zudem gibt es mehr Hintergrundtexte. Nunmehr soll es auch ein 69,99 Euro pro Jahr-Angebot geben, dass mit der Lieferung eines „Super Merc“-Solo jeweils im Sommer einhergehen soll – einer Figur auf 80 mm-Basis.
Spannender ist aber noch, dass es ergänzend auch ein Digital-Abonnement für offenbar 5 oder 15 US-Doller geben soll. Dafür erhält unter anderem man monatlich STL-Dateien für alternative „Caster“ oder, bei dem größeren Paket, auch ergänzend für Geländeteile. Das ist aus meiner Sicht ein sinnvoller Schritt: Zum einen fand ich mittlerweile auf aliexpress einen Anbieter, der (auch!) zahlreiche Warmahordes-Modelle (vor allem MK III), mutmaßlich ohne die entsprechenden Rechte, zum Kaufe anbietet – meiner Einschätzung nach durch selbsterstellte 3D-Scans. Einem solchen Gebahren dürfte durch ein eigenes günstiges Angebot, wenn auch hier für MK IV, entgegengetreten werden. Zum anderen schafft es hier Steamforged Games, zumindest in Ansätzen, einen konstanteren Umsatzstrom zu generieren.
Letztlich entspricht dies alles etwa dem, was ich vor einiger Zeit andachte. Damals überlegte ich, dass mittelfristig sämtliche Modelle von Tabletop-Systemen durch (illegale) Digitaldrucke oder entsprechende Dateien substituiert werden könnten. Im Vergleich dazu ist die tatsächliche Situation hier für Steamforged Games etwas besser ist, weil sie selbst proaktiv die digitalen Dateien selbst vertreiben.

The mighty tank builders and their wars are meaningless here. haha. Really effective and simple imho. I haven't read this yet but I read and really liked "The Drowned World" by the author.
