  8. In 2025, an #Arkansas appeals panel severely limited how the Voting Rights Act can be enforced. It eliminates a vital mechanism for communities of color and voters with disabilities to challenge discriminatory voting practices.

The case was appealed to the #SupremeCourt. The Court declined to review, leaving in place the lower court ruling.

The decision strips the private right to sue under Section 208 of the landmark civil rights Voting Rights Act, which allows voters with a disability or those unable to read or write to receive voting assistance from a person of their choice.

They seem to think if they can stop us from voting, they can stop us from rising. They will not.

  18. @oantolin This piece is squarely in the style of the measured, non-alarmist, depoliticized, timid and aloof articulation of a previous consensus.

Every career #academic recognizes this drivel: it's what the LLMs spit out because it's what they are meant to model.

This piece is "faster than expected," but for the people who were screaming bloody murder, for all the fucking good it did, over Bush's education policies before 9/11.

This piece is "Tel Aviv retaliated tonight after clashes with militant Islamists" for people who couldn't find 1982 or 1967 or 1948 on a calendar of the 20th century.

Industrial scale credentialed #illiteracy has been a policy goal for my entire lifetime.

  23. "Influencers," or worse, influencers posing as "professionals" have this really nasty habit of speaking in the most generic, generalized, vague terms possible… because they want to cast a wide net with their "reach"… and then getting pissy mad when you fill in the blanks THEY LEFT with your own personal experience.

They should follow the dictum for songwriting: the more specific and detailed, the truer it rings.

But hey, we all know they welcome the pushback - and may be DELIBERATELY obtuse - just because it boosts their "numbers" or what the fuck ever.

But goddamn. This is Communication 101 - coming from someone who's autistic! If you REALLY want to CONNECT with people, making massively accusatory statements WITHOUT CLARIFYING DETAILS is a GREAT way to be MISUNDERSTOOD.

But they don't care. It's engagement farming. And I fall for it and get duly yelled at for "projecting" every damn time. WELL WHAT ELSE AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH A BLANK SCREEN OTHER THAN PROJECT. HUH? FUCK YOU.

  25. @ilumium A reasonable #BuyEuropean mandate makes absolute sense. The FCC-example (for it‘s BuyAmerican counterpart) is NOT reasonable, it‘s what you get when you marry incompetence with ideology and corruption and label it as Divine Will.

Just keep rightwing tech-illiterates out of the equation, and things could truly thrive.
