While the conversations unfolded, Thea Schukken captured the ideas, tensions, and questions in this wonderful illustration.

I love how it brings the conversations back to life. 😃

The Asteroid No.4 is an American psych-rock and shoegaze band now based in the San Francisco, after moving from Philadelphia in 2011. Formed in the late 90s, the group has earned a loyal underground following through immersive live shows characterized by layered guitars and heavy reverb. They boast a prolific discography, including 13 studio albums alongside numerous EPs and singles. Their signature sound blends shoegaze, 12-string folk-rock, Kosmische Musik, and cosmic country.

The band was founded by childhood friends Scott Vitt and Eric Harms, who previously played in punk and Smiths tribute acts. Inspired by 90s British shoegaze, they recruited bassist Gregg Weiss and drummer Bill Reim to complete the original lineup, debuting with a self-released 7-inch single on their own Lounge Records label. The name "The Asteroid No.4" honors Vesta (the solar system's brightest asteroid) and the UK psych band Spacemen 3. Notably, their cover of Spacemen 3's "Losing Touch with My Mind" on a 1998 tribute album was publicly praised by founding member Sonic Boom in Magnet Magazine.

Acid Rooster blends German krautrock and psych-rock with cosmic jams. The childhood trio crafts instrumental music that shifts between ambient spheres and heavy, climactic riffs. Their partly written, partly improvised tracks create a trance-like undertow, blending space rock, drone, and garage. Authentic and stylistically confident, they offer a fresh, unpretentious take on psychedelic heritage.

Sarah & Rohini, I found your fantastic challenge and will give you the best I can, mucho thanks

There is just one rule: All five clues must find their way into your piece.

    Your Five Clues

    1. A red umbrella
    2. A missing tooth
    3. 1984
    4. A woman who hates birthdays
    5. A bird that cannot fly

In 1984 while walking downtown in Anywhere U.S.A. Paula was window shopping and not really paying attention to the foot traffic around her. As she stopped to gaze through the window of the “A RED UMBRELLA FACTORY ” she noticed a man behind her on the sidewalk. At first glance he looked like any other man in a bustling city but on closer scrutiny Paula noticed a missing tooth in his smile. This somehow made her feel relaxed and she turned to start a conversation with this stranger.

They soon made their way to the “Rustic Camel”, a coffee shop about a half block away. Sitting inside there was small talk for a little bit as they became more comfortable with each other. As minutes turned into an hour Paula was thinking to herself how much of a gentleman he was and thinking there should be more guys like this in the world. Continuing the conversation she let Robert know her more personal feelings, telling him that she was not into the cheap thrills of certain things. She let him know that she was a woman who hates birthdays and most of the other holiday’s of the year.

Robert sat there for about fifteen minutes longer listening and then excused himself explaining that he needed to feed the parking meter and would be right back. As he returned he had a gift in his left hand, a red umbrella he had purchased before returning to the Rustic Camel. He gingerly handed it to her telling her that birthdays were one of his favorite days to share love with gifts. Since they had such different thoughts about this he wanted her to have the umbrella to remember that covering your head in a rainstorm was almost as important as respecting the day that highlighted the birth of life, he showed her a bird that cannot fly as he paid the bill and walked out of her life.

  22. Unsalted is Hibernating

You may have noticed we have been quiet for some time. The collective has become very busy and can't give Unsalted Counter Info the time this kind of project needs. This happened before the fascist attack on Autistici/Inventati which resulted in noblogs being taken offline and the disbanding of A/I. Finding new hosting means even more work for an already busy collective.

We would rather make an announcement than leave people guessing. We're entering hibernation and hope to reawaken later. Without the noblogs, we will be posting submissions directly to this mastodon account. We will have submissions open to our onion site or protonmail inbox for another 30 days. On October 31 we will officially enter hibernation, take down the onion site, and stop checking the submission inbox.

Watch this mastodon account! You will know spring has come and we have awoken when this account is active, the verified site is updated, and the onion site returns. We will be the only ones with the keys necessary to bring the onion site back online at the same .onion domain, so we recommend saving it to verify later.

We leave you with the keepitfree.ai/ resource on the A/I situation, and A/I's parting words: Go forth and multiply! May 10 - 100 - 1000 servers spark up

    Until soon,

  26. I think SoundTransit . nl is lost media now.

I have maybe a couple of dozen files downloaded in my clips collection, but I can't find the sound archive anywhere online. The next step would be to email one of the project creators and see if she knows of an existing archive or can get me access to it so I can re-post the files somewhere (I suppose they could be uploaded to Internet Archive or FreeSound -- they had a blanket CC By license for contributions).

All the references I can find are old, and the links to any data are broken.

Also... searching for "Sound Transit" now turns up the a Seattle train authority -- a reference to "Puget Sound" (the waterway), no doubt.

The Internet is haunted by the ghosts of this site, still. But no substance seems to remain.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20160318122436/http://archive.turbulence.org/soundtransit/

There used to be about 2000 field recordings ("phonography") submitted from all over the world there. It was a very useful site, and a lot of fun to browse through. #LostMedia #Phonography #SoundTransit #Archives #CreativeCommons
