Put five people in a room and ask them to pick holes in something, and more often than not they'll end up agreeing with each other... and not because they're right. Disagreeing with the room has a social cost.
Why would a model be any different? They're trained on every polite meeting transcript and diplomatic code review we ever produced, so I suspect sycophancy is the training data showing through.
So when I had two models from different vendors cross-review the same architecture, each got the other's report with one instruction attached:
"Do not manufacture agreement. A disagreement that survives mutual review is worth more than a diplomatic split."
One conceded all five criticisms levelled at it and withdrew its biggest recommendation. The other caught itself breaching the very rule it had used as its killer argument. And one divergence held (a sandbox's denial is just an error, and a component can swallow an error), which went into the spec as a requirement in its own right.

They say it is not »real intelligence« (whatever »real« means), that it is just a »stochastic parrot«, and that it can never become more intelligent than humans.Some even hold this position in the light of the recent development.
Now it is good to see that finally people are waking up. We can only see the real dangers if we assume that it does work. That we can reach AGI or, depending on the definition, have already reached it.
Bernie Sanders seems to get it. Rutger Bregman in his essay equates the AI-deniers with climate deniers. I often see some parallels with Covid denial.
