  1. RE: mastodon.au/@RenewEconomyRSSFe

Fucking #LNP should be banned from existing !! #cleanEnergy #Renewables #BatteryMetals How in shit's name was Qld the place they managed to get elected (generally unelectable now) before the #OneNotion wave swept the country ?? They would be worse of course, but the chance of them forming govt is as likely as me becoming the next Labor Leader !! 😆 🥂

  2. This gives me hope that Australians, by and large, aren’t what #PHON is all about:

“Australian voters are sorting not on left-right economic axes but on openness-versus-authoritarian trait dimensions, and the sort is accelerating. Right-wing cultural populism, the One Nation product, mobilises the authoritarian end of that distribution. It is effective in cohorts where authoritarian traits are over-represented: older voters, voters with low formal education, voters in racially and culturally homogeneous areas, voters whose lived experience does not include being on the receiving end of the politics of race.”

In the context of a growing #MultiCultural Australia and the aging #WASPish voters, there is hope for a future without a threat from PHON and its current voters.

  7. CW: Auspol - Reform and One Nation

    @HardBeingGreen
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head here… anger and blame game seems to be driving people’s political choices. It’s also a reflection of the frustration brought about by a freakingly unimpressive #Labor govt. What kind of majority does a party need to be more progressive these days? It very much feels like #AlboPM is offloading all of his pent-up resentment for the #Dismissal with #anger and #hate aimed at the #LNP (responsible for cutting his early career short) and the #Greens (for stealing labour votes). It’s beyond sad, it’s freaking disgusting to use Labor voter’s trust in that way IMO.

  8. @BobLefridge @phil_stevens

Except in #Australia it's biggest northern port (#Darwin) was sold off to #China by the then conservative #LNP Government...
Minister Robb (His name gets mis-spelled with two bed) got a fake job on the board at $600,000 for services to China.

No need to do any shenanigans when your opponents literally give you shit.

  11. Honestly, I suspect the #LNP government in #QldPol is that petty, they'd ensure the search warrants and charges for Reza Adib happen the same week Palaszczuk is doing her book launch. #AusPol

  12. More idiocy from the #LNP. Admitedly, this was a #BrainFart from #SenatorPaterson, but it evidences the paltry knowledge of Defence matters in the party ranks when this sort of things is said out loud.

Way to go… not to confuse the electorate and those ‘targeted’ lost voters. Time is not kind to the #LNP, a bit like with the Dodo.

  14. @RHW
The funniest thing is… those non-labor (Liberals ?) peeps who complain about what the govt is doing or not doing, when #Labor is effectively a locum tenens for what the #LNP use to be.

Not much critical thinking going on here…

  15. @HardBeingGreen @luciedigitalni

  17. Ah.. a rare piece of ‘informative’ and ‘facts-based reporting from the #ABC. This article sheds quite a few flood-lights on the #migration political debate and calls out recent #LNP talking points for what they are… so much #racist BS. It is a well written piece by Gareth Hutchens based on historical facts and a recent #research paper from ANU (with a link to it).

Well worth the read, especially if you need facts to inform family members caught in the #propaganda fed to us by #msm and #freeview TV channels (also no small a number of social media ‘trolls’).

“The paper says Coalition governments have contributed "significantly more than Labor governments" to increasing temporary immigration levels in Australia over the past quarter of a century.” Though, it must be said, largely with bi-partisan support.

  18. The Minns #labor govt is still committed to #RoadUser charges for #BEVs and #Hybrid #EVs. A flawed tax policy IMHO. I do not yet own an BEV but this road tax is a sure disinsentive to buy one at a time when all govts ought to insentivise EVs like crazy.

I calculated that it would cost me over $500 a year in tax to run an EV under that policy (not counting servicing the vehicle, charging expenses, tyres, registration, insurance, etc.) while ammortising what is still an expensive vehicle over the life of the battery (about 10 yrs or a little more).

The loss of fuel tax (do States get a cut of this?) can easily be made up with higher taxes on #FossilFuelIndustries. We need to phase most of them out of the economy anyway.

This is supposed to be a #Labor govt… it’s not. It’s as neoliberal as the #LNP was 6 years ago and still supporting #FossilFuel despite the rhetoric on #Electrification.

“Minns said the government remained committed to its road user charge, set for July 2027, putting a fee of 2.97 cents a kilometre for an EV and 2.37c/km for a plug-in hybrid.” (Source: The Guardian)

  25. Some more on #AngusTaylor :

    ‘ 12.49 AEDT The POint — online
Angus Taylor uses welcoming speech to attack Islamic migration. Angus Taylor also used his speech to continue pushing Islamophobia. He said in his official address:

“Another mutual threat is Islamic extremism. In Europe and in Australia, the generosity of liberal democracies has been exploited.

We’ve opened our doors some people who don’t want to embrace our culture, who want erase it. The doors must [be shut to those who don’t embrace our culture]

Our culture can only survive by putting our values at the very centre of our immigration policies.’

Of course he doesn’t mention the mutual threat of far right extremism, which has been home grown in both Europe and Australia. What does that say about our ‘values’?”

Before Middle Eastern cultures, there was ‘red under the bed’, Greek and Italian migrants, recently African migrants have been targeted as well. the LNP is replete with #Racists. It’s all they can do from not getting in bed with #PHON. For this reason as well, I hate the #fascist #tRump

  26. I am beginning to think that the only way out of this #PoliticalDuopoly is to punish #Labour, renounce the shift to the right by crushing #PHON and the #LNP forcing any remaining majority (presumably what’s left of Labor) to ally with #Greens and progressive #INDies to form govt. And keep this up for three parliamentary terms so the electorate can get used to more diverse and #Inclusive representation in both Houses. We might then truly get ‘the govt we deserve’ not one imposed by the #msm #propaganda machine of the #FilthyRich.

  27. Why do the #Libs and #Nats think that selecting the right leader is a solution to their decline, when it's that their policies stink, they can't agree on anything, and really don't want women to have any influence. #auspol #NotMuchOfAParty
You know the #Liberal Party is big trouble when @TimWilsonMP comes out his #IPA hole to talk about the future of the #LNP. They are all scrambling to achieve the ambition of making the #Libs a minor party and setting up the next #LNPsplit #3? #ABC730

  35. I’m reading a Guardian article by Amanda Mead about Lucy Zelić, and I’ve just got stuck here — because it’s an examplar::

‘Zelić joined the Daily Telegraph as a columnist in May, and this month branched out as an afternoon host on Nine Radio’s 2GB. At the Tele she has written extensively about her opposition to trans women competing in women’s sport and attempting to be housed in women’s prisons. She has argued that childcare is harmful for children: “You’ll have to forgive me for longing for the days where our fathers went to work, our mothers spent our formative years at home with us and blocks of land cost as little as $400.” ‘

That’s is isn’t? That’s the definition of a conservative mindset, an #LNP mantra, ‘longing for the days when <insert whatever nostalgia comes to mind here>.’ I’m no psychologist (They’d have much more to say on this) but I’m guessing the kind of people afflicted with this lack of imagination, lack of optimism, unable to assimilate the lessons of the past and afraid of all challenges emerging from an evolving society aren’t exactly the kind of people you’d want to help solving contemporary problems. In fact, nostalgic curmudgeons are the only people who would vote for them. We all know someone like that. They have nothing to offer to our future well-being but less of the well-being.
