  1. “RNASeq analyses suggest Y-chromosome gene expression differs between brain and blood tissues but does not differ significantly in cases, controls or specific haplogroups. Overall, we did not find any strong associations between Y-chromosome genetics and Parkinson's disease, suggesting the explanation for the increased prevalence in males may lie elsewhere.” #isogg #dna #YDNA #Parkinsons #haplogroups #geneadons

  2. A distant Derby cousin and I recently got our Big Y-700 results back. I'm hoping other cousins from the last few centuries to millennium will test too to refine the results, but for now – behold our haplogroup! discover.familytreedna.com/y-d

  3. So I'm getting tantalisingly close, but still waiting for that crucial first estimate of when the ancestor I share with some Derbies in America was born.

I think we're close to some of the connections on paper, but it will be hard to get any closer. DNA is a nifty extra tool to see if I'm on the right track.

  4. A while back I upgraded to the Big Y-700 test with FamilyTreeDNA. Problem is, it takes months for the DNA sequencing to be done, then weeks to get a broad haplogroup (most recent common ancestor a few thousand years ago), then a more precise haplogroup (more recent common ancestor), then a list of matches and an estimate of how many years ago the most recent common ancestor was born.

  5. #Data analysis of mitochondrial #mtDNA and #YDNA 🧬 tests done on living people who provide the birthplace and year of earliest known ancestors in their paternal and maternal lineages, as well as #DNA samples collected from archeological sites, can predict most probable #migration paths of modern humans starting from the Rift Valley in East #Africa. ⬇️

What '#race' am I? What 'race' are you?

Same answer for both questions: #Human race!

  6. A new 🧬 adventure begins. Y not? mito's well.

(I've had my autosomal DNA results transferred to FamilyTreeDNA for a while now, but I'd like to get the hang of Y-DNA and mtDNA matches, and with the recent sale, I decided: why not start with myself?)

  7. “Recent advances in long-read sequencing technologies have allowed the generation and curation of more complete genome assemblies, enabling the analysis of traditionally neglected chromosomes, such as the human Y chromosome (chrY).”#isogg #dna #geneadons #epigenetics #YDNA

  8. @sven I did not started any #YDNA testing, since my direct #Geisinger Ancestor is my mother and my Grandfather and his brothers already passed away. May be I will grow an interest in it when all the existing sources are gathered.

  9. Nothing like waking up on a lazy Sunday to find that #FTDNA has assigned me a new #YDNA haplogroup! Not totally unexpected, tho.. So, greets from R-FT12654!!

  13. Doing a bit of #genealogy before bed.

James Darbyshire (1765–1823) is my fifth great grandfather: wikitree.com/wiki/Darbyshire-7

Trying to go back any further makes my head spin. There are too many possibilities and I can't be certain about any of them. The church was sexist and recorded children's fathers but not their mothers. I've been trying to nail this ancestor's parents down since 2016!

If I can go back another couple of generations, I'm tantalisingly close to finding how I'm connected to a Y-DNA match (but it could easily be a red herring).

This evening I started by trying to map out some of the messy facts that I can't get my head around, then progressed to recording some of the information I already know in WikiTree (previously it was only recorded in FamilySearch).

  14. Could someone who knows more about ancient DNA help with this question?

Ancient DNA sample Inchagreenoge 134 has been tested to be haplogroup R-S1026. Would there be any way to test this to the level of the FTDNA Y-700 test to find a more modern haplogroup?
