“Our finding multiple high‐level and sub‐haplogroup contexts of causal mtDNA pathogenic variants in PMD patients proves that although a possible contributor, the modifying effects of haplogroup context are not a main driver of the diagnostic disparities evident for African patients.” #DNA #Haplogroup #HaplogroupL #isogg #mitochrondria #PMD #mtDNA https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12254466/

A distant Derby cousin and I recently got our Big Y-700 results back. I'm hoping other cousins from the last few centuries to millennium will test too to refine the results, but for now – behold our haplogroup! https://discover.familytreedna.com/y-dna/I-FTF58625

Hypothesis: Racist groups have never, to the best of my knowledge, used the #R1b #haplogroup as a pseudo-scientific criterion of whiteness because it's not white enough.

Definitions 🧵:
A #haplogroup is a combination of #alleles that tend to be inherited together.
An #allele is a variation of the same sequence of nucleotides at the same place on a DNA molecule.#Haplogroups pertain to a single line of descent. As such, individual membership of a haplogroup relies on a small proportion of the #genetic material possessed by that individual.
Mothers pass on mitochondrial #DNA unmixed to all their children; so the #ancestry can be traced along the maternal line.
