  3. This doesn't look like #Appalachia.

Good Morning from Salt Lake City and #RootsTech.

If you are at RootsTech, come say hi at the #WikiTree booth (next to #FTDNA & Media Center).

If you are #NotAtRootsTech - what are you watching online today? And what pictures or information can I get for you?

  4. @bethroots @asawusch #wikitree currently makes 15,162 DNA test connections to my paternal surname. Try it for surnames of interest to you ! wikitree.com/wiki/Help:DNA This is the place i will leave my #genealogy research legacy for future generations. The volunteer collaboration and community here is amazing. I encourage those in the #Atkinson #FTDNA Surname project,to use WikiTree. #GeneticGenealogy @WikiTreeHowTo

  5. Nothing like waking up on a lazy Sunday to find that #FTDNA has assigned me a new #YDNA haplogroup! Not totally unexpected, tho.. So, greets from R-FT12654!!

  6. Could someone who knows more about ancient DNA help with this question?

Ancient DNA sample Inchagreenoge 134 has been tested to be haplogroup R-S1026. Would there be any way to test this to the level of the FTDNA Y-700 test to find a more modern haplogroup?

  7. @SteveLittle Wow, Steve thanks. I can only see program lines 14 to 33, so don’t know if I am smart enough to try to run it. This is for the Cecil-Cissell project at . We are trying to see if we can tease distant matches out of some whole genome sequencing data from Dante Labs. Dave

  8. @cissell

My #perl is very rusty (and this isn't my day job), but I found your #GeneticGenealogy project very interesting, so I wrote a #phython script that does what you ask, loops through two files, and if both first and second fields match, then the text is appended. Is your project related to a surname group at #FTDNA? I'm starting as a surname project leader there (#LittleFamily). I love playing with #regex puzzles, so it was fun to apply it to #DNA.

    Best! Steve

  9. #DNA #FTDNA #ISOGG #GeneticGenealogy Great news 🥳 from FTDNA spread the word. All kit owners can designate a project admin as a Beneficiary. That is not specific to an individual, it is for whomever is administering the project at the time that member passes away. This allows that administrator to maintain the kit, including ordering upgrades. Go to your account Settings then to Account Information and then beneficiary.

  10. @jmasonwritedit Thanks Joanne. I also manage the #FTDNA #RehobothMAPlaces #DNA Rehoboth DNA Project so if you have tested you can upload there.

  11. has a Y-Chromosome Browser for BigY test results. It currently provides access only to identified private variant locations.

For I occasionally want to be able to check the BAM file data at other locations. There are a few ways to do this, but the following is a manual method. The procedure works on a MAC, but I suspect something similar may be possible on a PC.

See the next sections for an example of the process.

  13. Still learning about Mastodon and trying hashtags!

For a Project, I have been tracing surname lines with using from Family Tree DNA ( ). That has worked out very well.

Now am trying to look at autosomal SNPs from ( ) tests to detect possible common ancestors back 9-12 generations or so. Want to see if very rare genetic variants ( ) can be used in some way to identify those possible connections.
