  1. The other marker of the turning of the seasons is the #wormfarm has been evicted from the conservatory.

We really neglect the poor blighters, but they seem to hang on in there. We have had this for a few years now, still with its original worms. (Well, their descendants I presume.) I have popped some veg waste, shredded card, and coffee grounds in the empty middle layer and shifted the bottom tray at the top and left it open to encourage the worms to migrate downwards.

I also collected the worm wee in a big screw top tub.

We should make better use of their wormy efforts really.

Next job was mopping the clearish 2/3 of the conservatory including the tragic job of soaking the dried corpses of escapee worms off the lino. 😢

  6. #vermicompost question; my worms seem to be surviving but just not really eating much? Is it possible I started them off with too much existing soil and they're cool with that?
Also I know I only recently got their moisture back up as things got drier with the weather change. I wanna get them to a point where they're thriving! #vermicomposting #wormbin

  10. If you have a #lawn to maintain, a few weeks before your last frost apply a layer of #compost to help fertilize it.
Then the grass clippings will be composted on top of it. Your grass will look more green than the neighbors.
You can also apply some aerated compost tea from a worm bin to bring the bacteria that will decompose the organic matter and create a more healthy #soil.

  11. If I could give only one piece of advice about how to setup a worm bin.

    Don't overfeed it.

Let the worms the time to consume the food and feed them about 2 times a week the volume of food they need.

Not doing this will attract unwanted visitors to your bin.

  16. A lot of pepper #seeds have sprouted in a #worm bin, the moisture, temperature, and nutrients made those seeds germinate because I keep the worm casting shallow. The #worms love it.

  21. Add #carbon to a #CompostAtHome bin

Wood chips, sawdust, #cardboard, #newspaper or paper, dried leaves, #straw or hay, pine needles, nutshell, and last but not least #compost.

The more it is chopped the fastest the #fungi in your bin will process it.

  22. #vermiculture #worms I was so excited last spring to get this #wormbin for my kitchen so I could collect #wormcastings easily and #compost my food scraps more efficiently. And benefit my #garden My friend made a similar bin with upcycled storage containers. The worms are doing well and are fond of my green tea leaves and fruity leftovers. They like coffee grounds, too!
