Just harvested a whole bunch of #vermicompost for the first time and it was cool. Spread it throughout many plants. There are sooo many new worms in that bin, and I was able to combine two other small bins into the big one, to have a single worm bin. #worms are cool.

Does anyone in the Barry/South Wales area want a 3 tier vermicompost complete with worms?

I can't take care of it now I'm disabled and want them to go to a good home.

It is nearly two years since I last tooted about my #vermicompost bin. There are simple reasons for this: the system stabilized, I got used to it, and other matters in life distracted me from writing about it. Hi Folks,

I'm considering trying vermicompost this year because our kitchen scraps serve as deer food in the compost pile.

Any tips? I'm considering just using the worms from my compost pile and not red wigglers since they are not native and can easily escape.

I'm planning to use the three-bucket method.

@hannu_ikonen check out bokashi bins, I believe that'd be the most indoor friendly way of #composting - bonus points for being able to use it for citrus, onion, and garlic peel as well as coffee grounds. We placed ours under the kitchen sink, and use two rotating bins, then cycle it though a #vermicompost #wormfarm with added #charcoal to inoculate the #carbon structure with #microorganisms and make #biochar. This should be installed outside though, or at least in a garage type of space. With its small footprint, even a balcony space works well. It may take some time to get a feel for what works best for your situation, all part of the journey 🪱♻️ The quality and potency of the #wormtea and solids is amazing - your plants will 💚 it!

#vermicompost question; my worms seem to be surviving but just not really eating much? Is it possible I started them off with too much existing soil and they're cool with that?
Also I know I only recently got their moisture back up as things got drier with the weather change. I wanna get them to a point where they're thriving! #vermicomposting #wormbin

If I could give only one piece of advice about how to setup a worm bin.

Don't overfeed it.

Let the worms the time to consume the food and feed them about 2 times a week the volume of food they need.

Not doing this will attract unwanted visitors to your bin.

A lot of pepper #seeds have sprouted in a #worm bin, the moisture, temperature, and nutrients made those seeds germinate because I keep the worm casting shallow. The #worms love it.

Add #carbon to a #CompostAtHome bin

Wood chips, sawdust, #cardboard, #newspaper or paper, dried leaves, #straw or hay, pine needles, nutshell, and last but not least #compost.

The more it is chopped the fastest the #fungi in your bin will process it.
