AI models are good enough. The real enterprise AI bottlenecks are #AIGovernance, #AISovereignty, and vendor lock-in. 🌐
Our AI Ambassador, Matthew Saunders, attended #UNOpenSourceWeek and brought back crucial lessons on why scaling AI safely requires moving beyond "claims-based" public endpoints toward model-agnostic, sovereign #AIInfrastructure.
Discover why the real risk lives in the harness, not the model 👇

#UNOpenSourceWeek revealed 3 critical AI problems enterprises face:
→ Claims-based AI: No verification of where your data goes
→ Vendor lock-in: Single-provider APIs create massive risk
→ Governance gaps: The "harness" matters more than the modelOur Private #AIAPIGateway solves all three with Zero-Token Retention, model-agnostic infrastructure, and regional data sovereignty.

We brought a unique perspective, shaped by our role as the leading public institution in Europe dedicated to investing in critical digital infrastructure. Making our approach accessible so that other institutions can adapt and build upon it when considering their own initiatives was a priority throughout the week.

#UNOpenSourceWeek has been a timely moment to discuss how open source software, open standards, and digital public goods can be better governed, funded, and sustained as shared digital infrastructure.
We’re therefore very pleased that the Internet Governance Forum’s Multistakeholder Advisory Group has approved a new Policy Network on Open Digital Infrastructure for the 2026 IGF cycle.

Is Digital Sovereignty Another Word for Nationalism?
In which I share my experience at the United Nations' Open Source Week, discussing the critical issues around digital sovereignty and open source discourse. I'm a little disappointed that discussions focus on the localization of technology rather than addressing fundamental questions about privacy and human rights. Please don't view sovereignty purely as a geopolitical power play - this could lead to exploitation under the guise of nationalism. I'm calling for a definition of human rights in technology and urge that meaningful outcomes should take precedence over mere geographic considerations.https://osenetwork.com/2026/06/26/is-digital-sovereignty-another-word-for-nationalism/

We have appreciated the #UNOpenSourceWeek 2026 content on our timeline, giving us a glimpse into some of the insights emerging from the panels, workshops, hackathons, and community-led events at the United Nations headquarters in New York City!
Shoutout to all the members of the Carpentries community and allied organisations who attended in person and those that made some presentations. 👏
We are keen on the future outcomes of these engagements and collaborations on the alignment of #OpenSource goals with those of the UN Charter, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Global Digital Compact. 🌟

I’ve been fortunate to be able to attend the UN Open Source Week event again this year at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City where they bring the open source community together with government and policy folks to facilitate collaboration and information sharing. Here are a few of my thoughts from the first 4 days. #UNOpenSourceWeek

At #OSPOsforGood Day at #UNOpenSourceWeek, Policy and Research Lead Paul Sharratt spoke to a standing-room-only audience on the panel “Financing Open Source and Digital Public Goods: A Multi-Stakeholder Approach.”
Paul made the case for why open source infrastructure requires dedicated public investment. Critical open source is a classic market failure. The software provides enormous economic and social value, but private actors have little incentive to invest in maintaining it:
