Blanche Gibbs used this room as a private sitting room, where she could entertain female friends and family William and Blanche married in 1839. Willam was 49 and Blanche 21. The couple had seven children together.

Blanche was musical and well-read. She played the harp and once wrote that 'a room without books is always dull and insipid.'
