  8. We visited #Minehead yesterday, which is a town on the #NorthSomerset #Coast. Although it’s not that far from where we live, it’s still takes a while to get there as a north-south link is across #Exmoor #hills and there are some pretty narrow roads to traverse. It was a pleasant enough journey and we parked by the railway station.

  11. bristol channel

A grey sea lies flat beneath a low sky, with a wet slipway and dark stones at the edge.

The horizon thins to a line of light, and the world feels held between weight and release.

  12. Low tide in the Bristol Channel. Mud, water and sky fold into one dark plane, while cranes and wind turbines hold the far edge.

The land lies exposed, and industry waits at the horizon; the tide goes out, but the mark we leave does not.

  13. UK - Homeless shelters under pressure as temperatures plunge to sub-zero

Councils across the country have launched their Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP)

    by Holly Evans
    Tuesday 06 January 2026

"Homeless shelters and organisations providing emergency accommodation across the UK are preparing for an influx of rough sleepers as temperatures drop to sub-zero, with charities warning that a lack of affordable housing is pushing more and more people onto the streets.

"Councils across the country, including #NorthSomerset Council and #Bristol City Council, have launched their #SevereWeatherEmergencyProtocol (#SWEP) measures in an effort to ensure that people have access to shelter at night, with temperatures set to fall to as low as minus 3C in some regions.

"In #London, additional support has also been granted, with the mayor of London, #SadiqKhan, saying the cold could be 'dangerous and it can often be fatal' for those living on the streets."
