So let me get this straight… #Threads collects massive amounts of data, the platform is full of brands and celebrities, AND it uses an algorithm-driven feed. It tracks users, serves ads, and has quickly filled up, according to reports, with trolls, Nazis and the far right. Oh, and the site makes a shadow account for everyone with an Instagram profile, whether they want to participate or not. But still new users are flocking to the platform?? It’s a case of FOMO, and I don’t think it will last. F*ck Zuck and the corporate trojan horse he rode in on. Very disappointed in those I know who have bought the BS. Of course, if you escape right back to the birdsite as soon as these latest problems are fixed, you won't get much benefit out of Mastodon. I had to unfollow everyone on Twitter in order to properly make the transition. Glad that I did.

@Adam_Cadmon1 nah, I am sure it will all be fine next week. It is just the weekend and Frank from Twitter infrastructure is having a hard time keeping the treadmill working. All of the new #TwitterMigrants will give a sigh of relief and abandon their new Mastodon accounts and return. Which is a shame.

Ok for #Twittermigrants, first welcome aboard. We don’t bite.

Start following people to populate your timeline. There are no algorithms to muck with your brain.

As to apps, I use Toot on IOS. It allows for multi threading before posting. There are others, and the home app is not the only app.

Make yourself at home. Kick off your shoes…

Since we have seen a lot of new #TwitterMigrants over the last couple of weeks, I thought it was worth mentioning something.

You aren't limited by having just a single platform to use on the #Fediverse. There are a lot of others like #Calckey, #Pleroma, #Akkoma, #Misskey and others.

The major reason you might want to consider another platform, IMO, is if you find 500 characters too restricting.

You see people making long posts all the time on #Mastodon...and while there is nothing wrong with that.... If you do that a lot, an instance that allows 2000 or 3000 character posts might be better for you.

I mean, look at this post, I it would have been at least two normal posts for me - possibly three. But here it is, in a single post...

One more thing that makes the #Fediverse much nicer than #Twitter.

One of the best advantages of Mastodon over Twitter is the specific ability to follow hashtags. Especially if you are on a small or selfhosted instance, it is a great way to find your topics of interest! Like #caturday of course! The interface in @icecubesapp makes it very easy to search and follow.

Welp, between the reinstatement of #Trump's #Twitter account, and the likely implosion of the site with the start of the #WorldCup I believe we are going to see another major wave of #TwitterMigrants moving to #Mastodon

Time to have some patience, welcome the new arrivals, and help them adjust to the platform as gracefully as possible.

So, since I've been here a few years now, and can answer quite a few questions about this place.

Okay, that's cool...just take some time to look at the posts before boosting a 6 month old post...
