You can see their full profile pretty easily so that you can decide if you want to follow them and start bringing their posts to your instance.

I'm finding Mastodon a bit confusing. So far, I have managed to get my feed filled up with pictures of cats, which, of course, must be considered a good start. Now, if I can only figure out how to navigate the servers and multiple accounts, this might be a nice place to be.

Yesterday i posted a question regarding how people find their instance

It gathered a lot of responses which thought me a lot and i thought i might summarize it here (now that ive ((almost)) moved)

I heard 2 different ways of using madtodon. Stay in a big server and mold it to your liking on your own. Mainly using lists and the following feed only

and the other was to take your time and move a bunch often starting in a large server and ending in a smaller instance. Most of these people found their instances organically, through friends, irl acquaintances, specific focussed interests, looking at their following list or just trial and error.

My own takeaway is that i like having a local timeline for discovery aswell, so i prefer smaller servers. Giving me another experience than the main “all” timeline.

But i think most of all just ask people. The response i got to that question was really crazy to me, especially since i had no mutuals from other places that moved here. I wasnt involved in big online spaces.
Just using a hashtag (i used #askfedi) brought my post in front of a bunch of people that the brought it in front of others and i got to hear a lot of different people give me their tips abd perspectives

@horqua @Christhewriter I suggest using Hashtags-for example-when I post about the NY Mets, I put as many Mets hashtags as I can-not that it will guarantee followers-but it will improve visibility. Also, based on your App-you can also follow hashtags, and hence will see others posts on that topic, if they use that hashtag. This will introduce you to other people too. Good luck-and welcome to the platform-it takes time to find your “tribe”. Be patient-and I don’t have a bazillion followers either-

@zeroes suggests we post an #introduction, so here's why I'm here:

In naive earlier times I thought clear data would compel policy solutions.

In slightly later naive times I thought that once the popular media cracked each story, that things would change.

In embarrassingly recent times I thought politicians might see the political and practical advantages of acting in accordance with reality.

But only groups like militaries and actuaries, whose near term survival depends on getting the analysis right, and whose analysis is dissociated from peer pressure, are COVID-conscious in action.

So here we are, knowing #COVIDisAirborne, #CovidIsNotOver, #LongCOVID has a higher #MassDisabling burden than Polio had, and left struggling, yet again, to understand how in light of these truths we might steer society to a less harmful path.

I don't know what to do, but I know that logical conclusions require a basis in fact, and I'm here to try to contribute to the collective effort of figuring it out.
