  1. Hivemind,
Can someone help me with a #legal term, please?
German "Kompetenztitel". I can't for the life of me find a proper translation into English. Context: EU legislation.
Sample sentences: "Auf diesen Kompetenztitel gestützt kann die EU verbindliche Vorgaben zu ... aufstellen."
"Kein eigenständiger Kompetenztitel ist dagegen Artikel 13 ... ."

Feel free to tag someone who may know.
    Ta!

  2. Thank you to everyone sharing this!

The updates for the Chinese and Basque versions are completed, huge thanks to @mogita and @a_mento respectively.

I'd still appreciate help with the #Arabic version of the site.

  3. EDIT May 2: Thank everyone for sharing, this has all been taken care of!

Could someone who speaks #Arabic, #Chinese, or #Basque help me update the jointhefediverse.net site? I'm trying to remove links to joinfirefish.org and want to make sure I do it right.

Any help would be very appreciated!

  4. OK, #Italian #NodeCore #translation are now at 99% completion. The only thing missing for 100% are three strings pertaining “gated prisms”. Gating here is to be intended in the circuit logic sense (a gated prism is one that doesn't let light through). I'd rather use the proper Italian term here but I have no idea what it is. If anybody know, please do let me know #fediHelp #translationHelp

  5. 2. #NodeCore has lava, but *obviously* it's not called lava.

Since cooling flowing lava produces pumice
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pumice
the hot yellow flowing stuff is called …

    (wait for it)

    pumwater

And I mean, honestly, I think it's a brilliant #pun, but HOW THE FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF HECK AM I SUPPOSED TO TRANSLATE THAT!

  6. 1. #NodeCore has trees and the trees produce fruit. The fruit is acorn-shaped, but huge and more egg-shaped, so *obviously* it's called an EGGCORN
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eggcorn

How the heck am I supposed to translate that in a romance language, where acorn is derived from the Latin glans and egg from the Latin ovum?

I'm not good at #wordPlay in the first place, but I'm not sure this is even possible in the first place

  7. Another request - I need some pop song lyrics. I’m trying to replicate something clever a writer has done in Greek where he half-quotes some famous songs in his text, but my pop song knowledge is negligible.

Do these songs exist in English?

  8. #translation #translationHelp #fediHelp can somebody help me identify and transcribe (and possibly translate) this? It's supposed to be “an Arab invocation to help protect books from insects”

  9. @fosstodon @[email protected] @kev @mike

Maybe we need a translation hashtag, like

or (just to pick a random language)

to help find folks willing to help moderators with translation?
